Half-Life 3 Gameplay Leak Has Fans Losing Their Minds

Kicking off back in November 1998, the Half-Life franchise is one of gaming’s best, with the Valve Software series offering a first-person shooter which is memorable to this day thanks to immersive storytelling and engaging gameplay. As Valve’s debut product and the first entry in the franchise, Half-Life saw players take on the role of Gordon Freeman, a theoretical physicist who finds himself trapped in the Black Mesa Research Facility after it becomes overrun by aliens following a catastrophic failed experiment.

Praised for its diverse combat, vast exploration, and challenging puzzles, Half-Life was followed by the sequels, Half-Life 2, Episode One, Episode 2, and Half-Life: Alyx soon after. Now, despite multiple spin-offs, remakes, and standalone titles, fans are still eager for Half-Life 3.

Is Half-Life 3 Finally Coming In 2026?

Now, thanks to YouTuber Tyler McVicker who has made a name for himself uncovering Valve’s secret projects, Half-Life 3 may launch as early as this year. According to McVicker, who was actually the insider who leaked the existence of Half-Life: Alyx, Half-Life 3 is in such a finished state, that it is already playable from start to finish. So much so that, thanks to six years of datamining from both him and his community, he has been able to release a series to his YouTube channel showcasing all that Half-Life 3 has to offer so far.

“This is the first in a series of six videos that detail every single bit of information found through datamines related to HLX/HL3,” McVickers explained in the very first video. “The information you will find within this series is the result of nearly six years of dedicated research and collaboration by many members of the community. This first episode details all the jargon you’ll need to understand moving forward, a timeline of explicit HLX events between 2019-2025, and all the misunderstandings surrounding the project, and how we know those specific points are debunked.”

Showing everything from enemies to locations, NPC intelligence to gameplay mechanics, this deep-dive series just proves that Half-Life 3 is pretty much ready to go, so why is Valve holding out on its release?

Half-Life 3 Is Expected To Launch With The Steam Machine

Well, that has one very simple answer. The launch of Half-Life 3 will correspond with the arrival of the highly anticipated Steam Machine, seeing as they are both Valve products. Offering the power of a gaming PC but coming in at the size of a small console, the Steam Machine is set to be an exciting piece of hardware. However, with Valve recently announcing that, due to the ever-increasing price of technology, the Steam Machine was facing delays, we do not yet know when it will launch. That being said, it is still on track to be released in the first half of 2026. So, could Half-Life 3 launch as the Steam Machine’s debut title? It remains to be seen, but for now, we will have to deal with minor teasers to get us through the Half-Life drought.
