The future of the series is very much up in the air right now, and we don’t really know what the developer’s plans are, beyond the release of Halo: Campaign Evolved, a remake of the single-player elements of the 2001 release that started it all.
For fans of the franchise, the release of the next mainline game in the series is the big one, and absolutely crucial if it’s to continue in any meaningful capacity. Part of that will be announcing and releasing it at just the right time, and fans are split on what exactly the right approach would be.
Will Halo’s 25th Anniversary Include A Glimpse Of The Future?
Over on Reddit, one user asked the Halo community for their thoughts on the potential of an announcement for Halo 7 as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations for the franchise later this year.
It’s safe to say that most of the responses think it probably isn’t going to happen, with one saying, “Not likely. I wouldn’t expect Halo 7 until 2028. Maybe we get news in 2027. They’re definitely putting all their focus on the remake right now and if it does well, I wouldn’t be surprised if they remake 2 and 3 before doing 7.”
“My opinion is that they’re hard-rebooting the entire franchise. If Halo: Campaign Evolved does well, they will do Halo 2 (Evolved) and Halo 3 (Evolved), with their own take on the narrative from the first 3 games, then they’ll decide where to go from there. If it bombs, I think Microsoft will end the Halo IP,” another said.
Others were a little more hopeful, with one adding, “I think it’s plausible that we could see a brief teaser similar to the one we got for MCC, that was just ‘Halo on Xbox One’. It won’t directly say that it’s Halo 7, more of just a ‘more Halo is coming’ announcement.”
Halo 7 Needs To Get It Right
Whatever the future does hold for the Halo franchise specifically, if they do confirm that Halo 7 is on the way, then they absolutely have to get every element of it right. From the launch plans to the content of the game, if they can recapture that old magic, then there’s potential for an all-time great release. If they don’t, then it could really be a tragic end for a once great series.
