For those that missed it, Warner Bros. recently released the first official trailer for the upcoming Harry Potter reboot, which has been confirmed to debut Christmas 2026. The new series will once again adapt the books from the beginning, this time starring: Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.
How Can You Play Hogwarts Legacy For Free?
It’s not something everyone can do, sadly
With the release of the Harry Potter trailer, there may be some fans out there itching to explore Hogwarts early. Luckily for them, Hogwarts Legacy is currently free to download and play for PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers. And even if you’re not a subscriber, the game is currently 85% off on all platforms, so you can pick it up for less than $10 if you really want to.
I should also point out Hogwarts Legacy has been part of the PlayStation Plus library for a while now, and it’s definitely not guaranteed to stay around forever. In other words, if you were thinking about checking out the game, you’ll want to do it sooner rather than later.
In our review of Hogwarts Legacy back when the game launched, we said it was a “wonderful game filled to the brim with adventures to be had, activities to engage in, and secrets to be found. The school and the surrounding areas have been recreated beautifully, and players will easily lose hours lost in the whimsical splendor of this wizarding world.”
What’s Going On With Hogwarts Legacy 2?
We’re in for a bit of wait
Of course, Warner Bros. has confirmed that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is in the works, but there’s no telling when exactly we’ll see Hogwarts Legacy 2 appear. What we do know is that the next game is likely to tie-in more closely with the TV series, which could mean a modern-day setting rather than another game set hundreds of years before Harry and Voldemort.
For now, Harry Potter fans looking for their video game fix can just enjoy Hogwarts Legacy. And, of course, if they’re so inclined and are playing the game on PC, they can stuff it full of mods till it resembles a completely different game anyway.
