That success has since turned into confirmation that they are now actively working on the sequel, though that did come with the caveat of the original game largely being left behind, with no planned DLC or major updates on the way.
Interestingly, the game has actually managed to scoop a visual overhaul thanks to the work of NVIDIA, but it’s safe to say that the final effect has left a lot to be desired, and the community aren’t happy with what it does to the game’s aesthetic.
Hogwarts Legacy Probably Shouldn’t Look Like This
Over on Reddit, one user shared a video post which shows exactly what Hogwarts Legacy is going to look like with DLSS 5 activated. If you aren’t familiar with it, DLSS stands for Deep Learning Super Sampling an AI-driven graphics technology for GeForce RTX GPUs that is designed to boost frame rates and improve image quality in a myriad of games.
Up to now, that effect had been quite subtle, but DLSS 5 has seemingly entirely jumped the shark, massively compromising the original intended vision of game artists. Fans are equally unhappy with the final product, as many of the comments in the original post prove.
“Great, NVIDIA determining what the graphics for the game should be. F**k aesthetics. This is really dumb,” one comment read.
“The one with Hecat doesn’t look all that bad, but then you get the one with MC and it’s like those Hollywood movies where they let a thirty something play a teenager,” another added.
“NVIDIA, let’s stick to path tracing. This is horrible. We’ve done better AI renders 2 years ago, this is not it,” a third said.
Will This Tide You Over Till Hogwarts Legacy 2?
The fact is that this just isn’t a visual approach that anybody has asked for, and it makes the game look quite a lot like those terrible AI-generated videos we have seen all over social media.
If you’re desperately waiting for Hogwarts Legacy 2 to come out and want to return to the game, by all means do so, but it may well be worth keeping DLSS 5 off for the time being (once it arrives properly), if only to save your own eyes.
