Homelander’s Antony Starr Candidly Addresses Fan-Favorite Casting For Live-Action Resident Evil Role

Despite all the fervor, it seems The Boys‘ Anthony Starr isn’t ready to visit Raccoon City.

In a recent interview with ComicBook, the actor behind Homelander took the time to address his viral fan-casting in Resident Evils next live-action outing. It was there Starr admitted he isn’t sold on the project but won’t say never when it comes to playing Albert Wesker.

“I don’t even know what it is, man… I’m an actor from New Zealand and if people ask you about a job, you go, ‘Yeah!’ because there are not many jobs in New Zealand,” Starr explained when asked if he was seriously interested in playing Wesker. “So I’m trained into thinking, ‘Someone said ‘you wanna [do it]…?’ Yeah, I want that! What is it?!

“I don’t even know what it is, man… People keep bringing this up, and I think the only thing I have in common is blonde hair, which I’ve gotten rid of. I think you’ll probably need someone younger. I’m 50.”

For those unfamiliar with Resident Evil‘s comeback plans, the hit horror IP is slated to return to theaters in September 2026. Director Zach Creggar (Barbarian) is set to adapt the Capcom franchise alongside co-writer Shay Hatten. The movie, which will be distributed by Sony Pictures, will star Austin Abrams as its lead alongside Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Johnno Wilson.

At this time, few story details have been released for Resident Evil, and that means there’s no confirmation the IP’s most famous characters will appear in the project. Fans are hopeful icons like Leon Kennedy and Ada Wong will at least cameo in the upcoming film, so it is no surprise Wesker is also on that wish list.

The antagonist is Resident Evil’s most enduring threat in the franchise as the Umbrella Corporation virologist is determined to see the company’s mission through. Hollywood has courted the villain before, of course, as the original Resident Evil film series brought Wesker to life. In 2007, Resident Evil: Extinction took a crack at the unhinged scientist, and the character went on to reappear in three other films in the franchise. Ever since Resident Evil’s new movie was announced, Starr has been a fan-favorite pick to play Wesker, given his impressive work onThe Boys. However, according to the actor himself, he isn’t sold yet on joining Resident Evil — not yet, at least.

Resident Evil will hit theaters on September 18, 2026 in the United States.
