How Daredevil Can Fit Into The Story Of Spider-Man: Brand New Day

It’s about to be a big few months for New York City in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. First, Daredevil: Born Again season 2 premieres this month, with Matt Murdock, Karen Page, Wilson Fisk, and co. all set to face off once again. Then, there’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which releases in theaters this July and features The Punisher, a character closely associated with Daredevil.

The timing of the release of these two projects could potentially point to a surprise appearance from Daredevil in Brand New Day. A potential cameo (or supporting role) for the vigilante of Hell’s Kitchen makes sense in a lot of ways, as Daredevil seems to fit right into the story Brand New Day is hoping to tell.

Where Daredevil Fits Into The Story Of Brand New Day

Spider-Man: Brand New Day stands out from every other story featuring the web-crawler in the MCU. Tom Holland’s hero has gone up against villains seeking revenge for the actions of Iron Man, thus tying him directly to the rest of the universe. He’s also faced off with cosmic villains like Thanos and multiversal threats in the form of Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and Electro in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Brand New Day is set to differ greatly from that. The film is said to be much more grounded, positioning Spider-Man as a street-level hero once again.

There’s no Andrew Garfield or Tobey Maguire, and instead, the film is focusing only on the character of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. It’s a bold approach, especially after the success of No Way Home, but it may pave the way for Daredevil to make his movie debut in the MCU.

There are a variety of unique Spider-Man villains in Brand New Day, some of which are making their live action debuts. There’s Tombstone, Scorpion, Tarantula, and the first trailer for the film even appears to show Spider-Man facing off against the Hand, the crime organization that Daredevil attempts to take down in the Netflix series. Because of his history with the group, this could be how Daredevil fits into the story of Brand New Day.

Daredevil may also come into Brand New Day via his friend The Punisher, who’s seen interacting with Spider-Man in the first trailer of the film. Matt Murdock and Frank Castle have a long history together, so this could be how Daredevil fits into the story of the new film, too.

Possibility For An MCU New York City Team Up

If Spider-Man, The Punisher, and Daredevil are indeed all in Brand New Day, then that would make for a New York City team up with the region’s most famous and beloved heroes in the MCU. The trio interacting with one another and squaring off against villains together is something that does happen in the comics, so there is precedent for these heroes to join forces.

Brand New Day is already over halfway there as well. The Punisher and Spider-Man are working together in the trailer, despite the back and forth banter they exchange, so a New York City team-up is already happening. Punisher is said to have more than a cameo in the film, hence his reveal in the trailer, which means fans will at least get a Spider-Man and Punisher crossover.

The question then remains — is Daredevil going to be the surprise third member of the team? It certainly feels possible, especially when considering how grounded Brand New Day is in comparison with previous Spider-Man films in the MCU. The villains aren’t cosmic threats, and instead are more in line with the street-level atmosphere of Daredevil: Born Again and The Punisher Netflix series.

If this does happen, the trio may be facing off together against the aforementioned villains like Scorpion or The Hand group. Logistically, it makes sense that Spider-Man would reach out to Daredevil for help in fighting The Hand given the history the latter has with them, and his relationship with The Punisher could be his in to contact the notoriously isolated and guarded hero.

How Does This Impact Born Again Season 2?

Before fans get an answer to the question of a potential Daredevil appearance in Brand New Day, they will get to watch the next adventures of the hero as Born Again season 2 premieres this week on Disney+. Even if Daredevil isn’t in Brand New Day, it’s highly likely that events of Born Again season 2 will play into the new Spider-Man film in some way.

Although not confirmed, it appears that Brand New Day takes place after Born Again season 2 due to the appearance of a potential spoiler for the show in the new trailer. Because both heroes are in the same city, and both projects are set in the same place, they will certainly relate to one another in some form, even if it’s as minimal as a reference to the Hell’s Kitchen vigilante in Brand New Day.

The aftermath of the story of Kingpin in Born Again season 2 may be the connective tissue as well, but fans shouldn’t expect to see him appear on the big screen anytime soon.

Although the executive producer of the show claimed that Jon Bernthal wouldn’t be in season 2, it’s still possible that he’s saved for a surprise reveal. If that happens, then he may be part of the connective tissue between that and Brand New Day as well, which again may pave the way for Daredevil to join the new Spider-Man film. One important element that has been revealed is that the trio, if on screen together this summer, won’t be facing off against Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, as mentioned.

Actor Vincent D’Onofrio revealed that licensing issues prevent his character from appearing in an MCU feature film, thus limiting him to Disney+ for the time being. However, Daredevil, Spider-Man, and The Punisher can still come up against goons working for the villain, as

well as again dealing with any fallout or aftermath related to Kingpin’s role in the story of Born Again season 2.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases in theaters on July 31, 2026.
