What’s really happened here is that you’ve trespassed on a secret area called Pororin Forest. You’ll need to gain the inhabitants’ (called Shai) favor to visit, or even pass through the area, which can be pretty frustrating, especially if you’re just trying to get to one of the quest markers further south. Luckily, you can gain access to Pororin Forest by completing a fairly simple sidequest.
How To Get Into Pororin Forest Village
Complete “The Unreachable Village”
In order to access Pororin Forest Village, you need to speak to a group of nearby Shai, who’ll promise you entry in return for a favor. You may get a quest marker for this the first time you try to enter the village unsuccessfully. Either way, track down Arkin, who’s hanging out on a tree stump with a small group of Shai.
Speak to them, and they’ll explain: they’ve lost a precious relic, which is actually the village chief’s hat. If you’re able to return it to them, they’ll make sure the people of Pororin know you’re their ally, and welcome you into their village whenever you’d like to visit.
How To Complete “The Unreachable Village”
Find The Pororin Relic
The problem is that the chief’s hat has been taken by a giant walking tree. You’ll have to get on top of it to retrieve the relic. The tree wanders around the area a bit, but I found that it was pretty easy to locate by simply standing at the quest marker on the map for a few minutes.
Although you can climb the tree’s legs, its movements make it difficult to stay attached, and you may not have the stamina required to get all the way to the top. Instead, you should climb one of the nearby cliffs, then jump and glide until you land squarely on the tree trunk.
Don’t climb too high or far and risk running out of stamina; the tree passes pretty closely to the cliffs near the quest marker, so as long as you have a few feet on it, you should have no problem landing on top. Use your lantern to focus on the relic and pick it up, then return to the tree stump and give it to the Shai to continue.
Once you’re able to enter Pororin, you’ll gain access to a new dyehouse, where you can alter your appearance by changing the color of your equipment. There’s also the Research Institute, where you can pay the Shai to discover new recipes and permanent buffs to your gathering abilities. Perhaps most importantly, though, unlocking Pororin will allow you to pass through the woods unimpeded on your way to whatever else you’re doing in Crimson Desert.
