Iconic Power Rangers Star’s Final Role Gets Official First Look & The Perfect Release Date

The final role for an iconic Power Rangers star has offered its first official look.

A new action movie starring late Power Rangers star Jason David Frank has been revealed in first look images, as well as the perfect release date for its theatrical debut. Frank is best known for having played Tommy Oliver on the cast of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Sadly, in November 2022, the actor took his own life.

Now, Well Go USA Entertainment has released first look images of Legend of the White Dragon, Frank’s final film role. The images show Frank dressed in a Power Rangers-style white and gold uniform. In one of the images, he’s flanked by two people dressed in red and blue armor. Check out the images below:

In addition to the new images, the movie has been given a definitive release date. Legend of the White Dragon will arrive in select theaters on August 28, which is also National Power Rangers Day. This makes it the perfect day to be released in theaters, honoring Frank’s most notable work, as well as what most inspired the film.

What To Expect From Legend Of The White Dragon

Legend of the White Dragon stars Frank as Erik Reed, a former superhero who disappeared for three years following an incident that forced him into hiding. Now, he’s returned to reclaim his honor as the White Dragon, while also protecting his secret family from the villainous Dragon Prime (Aaron Schoenke). The movie was crowdfunded by a Kickstarter campaign.

Alongside Frank, other Power Rangers franchise stars that appear in the movie include Jason Faunt (Power Rangers Time Force), Cerina Vincent (Power Rangers Lost Galaxy), and Ciara Hanna (Power Rangers Megaforce). The movie was envisioned as a more adult-oriented take on the tokusatsu-inspired franchise, sporting elements of the series but for an older audience.

The movie was filmed mid-2021, and was originally supposed to be released in 2023. However, the release date has been consistently pushed back for years, with the movie seemingly finally scoring a permanent distributor in Well Go USA Entertainment. The images are a promising start, and indicate concrete plans for the film to arrive in theaters this year.

How Legend Of The White Dragon Will Honor Jason David Frank’s Power Rangers Legacy

Legend of the White Dragon is already showcasing how the film will honor Frank’s legacy as one of the most memorable characters in the Power Rangers franchise. Other images have revealed Erik will wear gray and green armor at some point in the movie, a direct reference to Frank’s introduction as Tommy, who served as the Green Ranger on the team.

The White Dragon outfit is also reminiscent of Tommy’s White Ranger outfit, which he had in later seasons of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The movie also promises action similar to the franchise, giving Frank a leading role that calls back to his legacy as an actor. It will likely involve plenty of other references, too, as the story it tells unfolds.

With Legend of the White Dragon now having a confirmed, limited theatrical release date, the movie seems poised to honor its starring actor while delivering on plenty of Power Rangers-style action. Sporting a fitting release date, the movie seems destined to finally come out.
