Jason Statham’s Spy Movie With Near-Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score Becomes Streaming Hit In The United States

Jason Statham’s Spy secures another target.

Statham has become one of the most popular names in the action genre. Among Statham’s best action movies are Furious 7, Wrath of Man, The Bank Job, and more. The actor has starred in multiple franchises, with the Fast & Furious movies being the most well-known, though his work in the star-studded The Expendables franchise and in the recent The Meg movies also resonated.

In recent years, Statham has not slowed down. The action star has led movies like Guy Ritchie’s Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, which recently resurged as a streaming hit, The Beekeeper, which has a sequel in development for a 2027 release, and more. Now, while waiting for a new release, fans of the actor can check out an 11-year-old film that has found new life.

According to FlixPatrol, Jason Statham’s Spy is currently the 3rd most-watched movie on Starz in the United States. The movie, which was released in theaters on June 5, 2015, leaves behind a few heavy hitters. In 4th, right behind Spy, is Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, and in 6th is the Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk. Now You See Me: Now You Don’t leads the list.

Spy has a star-studded cast. Statham is joined by names like Jude Law, Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, Allison Janney, Morena Baccarin, 50 Cent, and more. The action comedy follows McCarthy’s Susan Cooper, a CIA analyst with no experience in the field, who takes matters into her own hands when Law’s Bradley Fine, the agent she helped from afar, is murdered.

Statham gives life to Rick Ford, a CIA agent who goes rogue upon disagreeing with the agency’s decision to send Susan on a crucial mission. Spy ended up becoming a box office hit. The 2015 movie ended its theatrical run with $235.6 million. Based on its $65 million budget, it needed to land in the $130 million to $162.5 million range to break even.

Spy‘s success can also be measured by just how positive its reception was from critics and moviegoers alike. On Rotten Tomatoes, the 2015 Jason Statham action movie has a near-perfect 94% critics’ score. That happens to be the highest for a movie starring the actor in Statham’s career so far. In 2nd is Furious 7 at 81%, which is a big difference.

Spy also holds a strong audience score on Rotten Tomatoes at 78%. However, that one is surpassed by quite a few of the actor’s recent action movies. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, at 88%, Wrath of Man, at 90%, and The Beekeeper, at 92%, are just some of the films that top it. Still, Spy is a universally beloved movie, and its streaming resurgence makes it worth checking out again.
