Under the new measures, containers lying in port terminals from February 28 to March 14 will receive a 100% waiver on ground rent and dwell time charges, including those that gated in up to 7 a.m. on March 8. For refrigerated containers carrying perishable goods, 80% of plug-in charges will also be waived for the same period. The port has instructed shipping lines, NVOCCs, and freight forwarders to ensure that these benefits are passed on directly to exporters.

To further ease congestion and facilitate cargo movement, JNPA is providing additional storage areas within terminal yards and working closely with Customs authorities to handle temporary transshipment of containers arriving from other ports and destined for West Asia. The port authority emphasized that these steps aim to minimise disruption to India’s export supply chains and help exporters navigate the challenges posed by the current crisis.
The move follows directives from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPS&W), which called on major ports to implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to mitigate the impact of geo-political disturbances. Citing provisions under the Major Port Authorities Act, 2021, as well as concession agreements with terminal operators, JNPA said it was committed to extending all possible assistance to the EXIM community during this period of uncertainty
