Not only that, but you have more guns than even a suit-wearing shooting savant can carry. If you run out of bullets, rather than throwing a few clumsy haymakers a la Nathan Drake style, you have the martial arts expertise of John Wick and Neo combined. Oh, and by day you run a DVD store. Blackwood coming later this year to Steam promises all this and more. It’s definitely shaping up to be one to watch out for.
Blackwood Is John Wick Meets Uncharted
Gun-Kata Meets MMA
The couple of gameplay trailers available for Blackwood really show off the cover shooting mechanics combined with the John Wick-style close-quarters combat that mixes bullets with bruising mixed martial arts. You even get to wear a sleek black suit and carry guns like you’re the Punisher heading into a war zone. A slick-looking third person title with responsive gun play and grounded melee combat is just what the doctor ordered.
Imagine spending all day scanning DVDs and stacking shelves, only to spend your evening taking on brutal assassination contracts like Batman with guns! Even Agent 47 couldn’t hold down a day job! Quarter three of 2026 is still a long way off, but Blackwood is shaping up to be something quite special if they get the gameplay balance between the all-out action of nighttime and your regular day job right.
Gamers Need This 2026 Adventure On Their Radar
Bringing The Payne To The Max
Getting a gritty action shooter right can be tricky. But a quick glance at the trailers and Blackwood is showing some real early promise. Ducking in and out of cover and diving while shooting all look like they were lifted straight out of Max Payne’s handbook, but the martial arts and depth of fighting moves for you to unlock really look like something special. This looks like the perfect game to play if you’re a fan of John Wick.
Being able to switch from assault rifles, to handguns, to your fists as you move through gangs of thugs feels like something Mr. Wick would do. And while we wait for the upcoming John Wick game to arrive, Blackwood might just beat him to the punch, so to speak! Also, who doesn’t want to work in a DVD store? Okay, that aspect of the game seems a little weak, but if it helps flesh out the character, it could be worthwhile.
Blackwood is set to launch on Steam in Q3 of 2026 with no official release date confirmed yet. Hopefully, the team will take these few months to work a little on the character models and add that last-minute polish to this John Wick-inspired action game. If you can’t wait until then, there are still plenty of games with distinct Keanu Reeves-flavored new content in them for you to get stuck into.
