It’s been seven years of Vought and psychopathic Supes, and it’s all been leading to this. From the looks of the trailer, we’ve moved on from the bleak season 4 finale, and Butcher (Karl Urban) and his crew are united. That includes Kimiko, who has gone from silent to talkative since season 4.
Kimiko Talking Was Set Up By The Boys Season 4’s Ending
At the end of The Boys trailer, Kimiko asks A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) and Starlight (Erin Moriarty) if they are friends, surprising A-Train. This isn’t a total shock to viewers, considering in The Boys season 4 finale, Kimiko screams “No!” when Frenchie (Tomer Capone) gets taken away. It was always assumed that it would be the vocal breakthrough for her.
However, people may not have guessed that Kimiko would be so eloquent. In the season 5 trailer, Kimiko speaks like she never lost the ability to do so. I don’t know about you, but I thought that Kimiko would not know how to speak well in season 5, and would only be capable of a few words.
It’s clear that Kimiko is going to have as much of a voice as anyone else in the cast in The Boys season 5. Whatever was stopping her from speaking was clearly some kind of mental block rather than an innate inability. That “No!” was a dam-bursting word that let everything else spill out.
Kimiko Talking Is Great For Her Character In The Boys’ Final Season
It has been a joy watching Karen Fukuhara mime her way through four seasons of The Boys. Her facial expressions and physical movements were as good at indicating mood and intention as any line of dialogue. However, it’s even better that we finally get to hear Kimiko speak and get another side of Fukuhara’s acting capabilities.
In the past four seasons, Kimiko was one of the most menacing characters. She was like a mini-Wolverine, and her kills tended to be the most gruesome in a series that’s already violent. This version of Kimiko, the one that speaks, seems downright pleasant. It’s a funny juxtaposition to what we know of her.
Kimiko has long been a frustrated character. She was involuntarily injected with Compound V and forced to commit acts she never wanted to. Her inability to speak was an illustration of her frustration. Now able to speak, it may be that we see a less frustrated and, therefore, less menacing Kimiko in The Boys season 5.
