It has been almost a year since Bosch: Legacy ended with season 3. Even though Welliver has continued to make guest appearances as Harry Bosch in a recurring turn on the spinoff Ballard, the overall franchise is currently focused on launching a prequel series that sheds light on Bosch’s early years as a cop.
In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Grant Hermanns, Welliver was asked about whether there was any momentum headed towards the possibility of Bosch: Legacy season 4. The actor has spoken in the past about how Prime Video is a destination for action dramas such as Bosch, Reacher, Cross, and Jack Ryan.
In particular, Welliver has talked about how Jack Ryan will soon return to Prime Video in the form of a follow-up movie. The actor is not ruling out the possibility that Harry Bosch could get the same revival treatment, revealing that he’s had conversations with Bosch author Michael Connelly and producer Henry Bastik. However, in the quote below, he notes that the focus remains on launching the upcoming prequel series:
SR: I think I’m almost out of time, so before I let you go, I know I’m always asking you about Bosch, but I am curious. We’ve got Ballard season 2 on the horizon, Start of Watch on the horizon. I’m still keen though for Legacy season 4. We’ve talked before about maybe a movie and stuff like that. Has there been any positive momentum, since Amazon MGM is still very in the Bosch business?
Welliver: Yeah, I mean, there have certainly been conversations between [Michael] Connelly and Henrik Bastin and myself, and ideas, but nothing definitive at this point. I think they’ve very much got their hands full with Start of Watch, which I’m excited to see, and I’m excited for everyone involved.
Even Without Bosch: Legacy, 2026 Is Big For Welliver
Harry Bosch may not be the main character. However, it is confirmed that Welliver will be back as the popular character for Ballard season 2. He is one of several faces that will be a part of the Prime Video series, which will pick up after Renée Ballard (Maggie Q) is arrested for a murder that she did not commit. Ballard does not have a specific release date, though it is confirmed to release in 2026.
Welliver will also have a more prominent role in The Westies, an upcoming MGM+ drama that has been described as an Irish version of Peaky Blinders. It takes place in the early 1980s, beginning as the construction of the Jacob Javitz Convention Center on the Westies’ home turf in Hell’s Kitchen promises great financial rewards.
Hailing from Narcos creator Chris Brancato and Michael Panes, the series looks at how things break down between the Five Families of the Italian Mafia and the titular Westies. Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons, Tom Brittney, and Jessica Frances Dukes also star in the series, which will debut on July 12 on MGM+, in a nice bit of synergy with the Bosch prequel.
The Bosch: Prequel Is Already Filming
Cameron Monaghan will play the younger version of Harry Bosch in the prequel Start of Watch, which is currently filming in Los Angeles. It will air on MGM+, though an exact release date has not been confirmed. Overall, at least in some sense, the story will move forward by looking at the past. Still, more Bosch: Legacy is not out of the question eventually.
