Matthew Fox Not Returning For The Madison Season 2

One of the most talked-about stars of Taylor Sheridan’s newest series, The Madison, won’t be riding into the show’s sophomore season with the rest of the cast.

While The Madison, which debuted the first half of 6-episode first season on Paramount+ on March 14, has completed its first season as of Saturday, March 21, the finale won’t be the last viewers see of the Clyburn family. The series was renewed months ahead of its premiere in August 2025, The Madison won’t see Matthew Fox returning with the rest of the cast.

Fox played Paul Clyburn, the brother of Kurt Russell’s Preston Clyburn, throughout The Madison season 1, but has shared he won’t be back next season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox explained a brief stint on the series was all he was looking for.

“I’m at a point in my life where I’d rather pop in and do something interesting,” Fox shared, referencing his long-term stint on Lost as he continued, “but I don’t want to dedicate six years of my life to something.” While Fox feels Sheridan is “an exceptional writer” and appreciated the “authenticity of the world,” Paul’s story, tied so closely to Preston’s, didn’t need to continue.

Filming both seasons concurrently to accommodate Russell’s schedule while he was also working on Apple TV’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, The Madison season 2 is already finished. This means the project’s filming schedule was undoubtedly intense. Fox’s character’s close-knit ties with Russell’s meant the pair were consistently working together without the rest of the cast, telling an entirely different part of the story.

Sheridan, whose biggest project to date is the Yellowstone franchise, serves as the driving creative force behind The Madison. According to Fox, seeing Sheridan work was an incredible experience, as he “offers a lot as a storyteller” in a way that’s “mind-boggling.” Fox, whose career has spanned four decades, revealed that Sheridan “writes everything” which makes his shows consistently feel like they have singular vision.

Viewers may find themselves missing Fox as The Madison continues into its second season, considering he had personal connection to the material, which added a layer of authenticity to his performance. Having grown up in Wyoming, Fox said he appreciated the authenticity Sheridan brings to the Western setting, which has become a hallmark of his work across projects.

While Fox’s short stint on The Madison means viewers won’t be seeing the actor return to the world of the show, his character’s impact on the series was tremendous within its inaugural season.
