Matthew Lillard “100%” Confirms A Proper Ghostface Reunion With Skeet Ulrich In Upcoming Horror Movie

The pair starred together in Wes Craven’s Scream (1996), and both have since gone on to work extensively in the genre. Most recently, Lillard and Ulrich appeared in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (2025), but they didn’t actually share any screen time together. That could be about to change with a potential Five Nights at Freddy’s 3.

Speaking at a recent fan convention (via @uorplefever), Lillard is asked directly whether another Five Nights at Freddy’s sequel will feature a proper reunion between him and Ulrich. “Yes, next question,” Lillard says. “Yes, 100%.”

Lillard plays a key role in Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise as William Afton, the co-founder of Fazbear Entertainment and a central villain. Ulrich joined the most recent installment as Henry Emily, the other co-founder and father to Charlotte, one of Afton’s victims.

Lillard’s most recent confirmation that William and Henry will appear on-screen together in a third installment follows comments from Emma Tammi, who directed both films. Tammi told ScreenRant in December that, while Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 hasn’t yet been given the green light, getting Lillard and Ulrich together on screen is something she’d be interested in bringing to life:

If we were to make one, and whether or not there would be actual interaction between them or just still remaining in the same film, but in separate scenes, it’s all kind of yet to be revealed. But yes, I think it would continue scratching all of our itch to see more of them and bring that reunion even more to life.

With the Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 ending teasing more story to come, a third movie could be just a matter of time. Following Josh Hutcherson’s security guard Mike as he takes a job at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza and faces off against murderous animatronics, the first movie was a big hit, grossing $291 million worldwide. The sequel was also a major performer at $238 million worldwide.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 reviews were scathing from critics, as they were for the first installment, but these films are clearly striking a chord with audiences. Considering the first film was made on a reported budget of $20 million and the second was made at roughly $50 million, the franchise is a big money-maker for Blumhouse and Universal.

The Five Nights at Freddy’s movies are rated PG-13 and are aimed at a slightly younger horror demographic, many of whom may not have seen the original Scream. Still, the prospect of Lillard and Ulrich sharing the screen together in a third installment could be an interesting selling point, especially with Scream 7‘s recent box office success confirming that franchise’s staying power.

It remains to be seen whether a Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 will happen, but things are looking promising. If a third film does get off the ground, viewers will seemingly be in for a fun Ghostface throwback.
