Marvel Has A New Nickname For Miles Morales: “Brooklyn’s Finest”
Miles Morales: Spider-Man – Brooklyn’s Finest Infinity Comic, Written By Cody Ziglar; Art By Julian Shaw; Released January 6, 2026
“Brooklyn’s Finest.” It’s a catchy new tagline for Miles Morales, one that feels like it could have staying power. This sort of “branding,” for lack of a better term, is important for any superhero, but it’s especially crucial for Miles, who labors in the shadow of Peter Parker as Marvel’s 1-A Spider-Man.
Brooklyn’s Finest is a good jumping-on point for new fans looking to get into Miles’ comic exploits. It’s the kickoff to what is expected to be a big anniversary year for Miles Morales. The question is whether Marvel will be able to effectively push the “Brooklyn’s Finest” nickname for the hero, and make it stick.
2026 Is A Big Year For Miles Morales; Where He Is 15 Years After His Debut
Miles Is Still Making A Name For Himself In Marvel Lore
Miles Morales was introduced in 2011 in Marvel’s Ultimate Universe. He was the replacement for that continuity’s Peter Parker, who was killed off. It was a milestone for Marvel; a young black kid from Brooklyn officially took over the starring role of one of the publisher’s biggest books. The move was validated by success. Miles was an immediate fan-favorite from his debut.
Yet in 2015, Marvel discontinued its Ultimate line of comics, and ported Miles over to the mainstream Marvel Universe. This kept the character in the spotlight, but it also meant he now had to share it with the original Spider-Man. Miles continued to thrive anyway, but a decade-plus later, he’s still battling to distinguish himself from Peter Parker.
Marvel Officially Confirms Miles Morales’ Design For Spider-Man’s New Appearance
Marvel officially confirms Miles Morales’ design for Spider-Man’s new appearance, with the hero using an iconic suit and going by a different name.
“Brooklyn’s Finest” is one way to do that. Or at least, it points the hero in the right direction. Maybe “Brooklyn’s Finest” doesn’t catch on, but the idea that Miles Morales needs to have his own thing, to be promoted as a unique hero beyond his Spider-identity, is something Marvel needs to follow through on in some way, shape, or form.

Brooklyn’s Finest Kicks Off A Pivotal Year For Miles
It’s unclear how long the Marvel Unlimited exclusive Brooklyn’s Finest will run, or when it might be collected in a trade paperback edition. Readers should check out the series if they’re looking for a fast-paced, Miles Morales-focused story. Beyond that, Miles is expected to play a role in Marvel’s upcoming Armageddon event series.
Whatever else Marvel has in story to mark 15 years of Miles remains TBD. That said, the character is alive and well, and still just coming into his own as one of Marvel’s A-list heroes. Miles Morales is arguably just getting ready for the peak of his Spider-Man career, and it starts with him living up to the “Brooklyn’s Finest” nickname.
