During the 2000s, when the original Bleach and Naruto anime episodes aired, Studio Pierrot miraculously produced two (sometimes more) episodes of anime per week.
This workload is nearly impossible by today’s anime release standards. With Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War being a prime example, anime is now typically released seasonally rather than with a new episode nearly every week of the year. A trend Boruto will hopefully follow.
The Next Boruto Anime Can Be More Focused Than Naruto Ever Was
In March 2023, the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime concluded, while the manga continued and eventually led to its own dramatic time skip. Many fans around the world are excited to see content from Boruto: Two Blue Vortex adapted, but anime fans have been spoiled with the project that has kept anime maker Studio Pierrot busy: Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War.
The return of the Bleach anime has proved that Pierrot can deliver jaw-dropping visuals and smooth pacing, and Naruto fans are anxious for a similar treatment.
Bleach: TYBW is adapting its manga’s final arc into four separate seasons (aka Cours) to give the material and its animators the time and resources they deserve. While Naruto, Shippuden, and Boruto were all weekly, when they inevitably return, things will be different.
New Anime Release Schedules Defeated The Filler Nemesis
Adapting an anime can often run into the issue of covering material faster than an ongoing manga can release. This is why some older anime suffer from poor pacing. Production studios needed to find ways to fill the twenty or so minutes each week without running out of content, often resulting in the need for non-canon filler episodes.
Nearly 70% of the Boruto anime was considered filler content not adapted from the manga. When it continues, a seasonal release will allow Studio Pierrot to focus on adapting the original storyline rather than creating filler material. Over time, the anime industry’s shift from producing higher-quality content to more consistent content has brought about a dramatic change in the medium.
Naruto: All of the Tailed Beast & Jinchuriki in the Anime
The mythology of the Tailed Beasts and their Jinchuriki is central to the Naruto story, but you don’t need a catchy song to remember them all.
Many classic anime series suffered from drawn-out stare-downs and unnecessary reaction cutaways that often disrupted the pacing, even in canon episodes.
Those annoying traits that kept many potential fans away have been replaced with a more consistent tone and improved visuals thanks to seasonal releases. When the Naruto anime returns with Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, the change will improve the franchise more than fans likely realize.

Naruto is a franchise spawned from the manga series penned by Masashi Kishimoto that began in 1999. Generating several tv series, games, movies, and more, Naruto follows the exploits of a young outcast ninja harboring the spirit of a demon fox who seeks to become the Hokage, the leader of his ninja village, to break the stigma against him. Upon the conclusion of the initial series, Naruto expanded into Boruto, following many series protagonists’ children and returning faces.
