Netflix’s 14-Part Action Crime Series Is An Instant Global Streaming Sensation

The French-language action drama debuted its first season, which consists of eight episodes, on Netflix back in March 2024. Two years later, a second season, subtitled Resistance and consisting of only six episodes, was released on March 18.

Now, two days later, Furies ranks eighth on Netflix’s Top 10 TV shows in the world for today, March 20, per FlixPatrol. It ranks below JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure at No. 1, One Piece, Virgin River, Unicorn Academy: Secrets Revealed, That Night, Love & Death, Beauty in Black, and above Radioactive Emergency and Phantom Lawyer in 10th place.

For today, Furies is on Netflix’s Top 10 TV shows in a total of 47 countries across Europe, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, South America, and parts of Oceania. Both seasons of Furies are streaming on Netflix in the United States.

Created by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, Jean-Yves Arnaud, and Yoann Legave, Furies follows a young woman who, seeking to avenge her father’s death, becomes entangled in Paris’ criminal underworld, including the web of the enigmatic and brutal Fury, peacekeeper of the Paris criminal underworld and holder of all their darkest secrets.

Furies cast includes Lina El Arabi, Marina Foïs, Mathieu Kassovitz, Steve Tientcheu, Quentin Faure, Jérémy Nadeau, Sandor Funtek, Anne Azoulay, Eye Haïdara, and Fatima Adoum.

Furies: Resistance only has one positive review on Rotten Tomatoes, which isn’t enough to qualify for a score, though critic Joel Keller of Decider writes, “Like its first season, you’re likely watching Furies for its action and not its story. The story in Furies: Resistance is even weaker than the story from the first season, but the action sequences are just as fun to watch.”

Furies season 1 also only has one positive review on Rotten Tomatoes from Ty’Kira Smalls of Common Sense Media, who writes, “This series is bustling with bloodshed. Furies is fast-paced, fun, and action-packed.” Season 1 also has a 52% audience score with fewer than 50 ratings, though Resistance ​​​​​​doesn’t yet have any audience ratings.

Frequently eliciting comparisons to the work of Luc Besson and the Fast & Furious franchise, Furies certainly seems like the kind of series with great action sequences but a weak story, which can sometimes still work. Based on its streaming success, it seems that global audiences can’t resist a fast and fierce binge on Netflix.
