Of the latter, there is really a treasure trove of sci-fi shows just waiting to be discovered by a bigger audience on the streaming service. As many know, Netflix cancels quite a few series. Due to that, some multi-season shows from the 2010s ended up fading into obscurity after they were cut short. This sci-fi series is one of them, but an epic first season continues to invite new fans.
Netflix’s 3-Season Sci-Fi Series Starts Strongly
Travelers is one of Netflix’s most underrated sci-fi series. The show has a strong concept, with citizens from a post-apocalyptic future sending their consciousness into the past to take over host bodies and go on missions that are set to change the dark future that awaits. The Netflix sci-fi series presents an interesting twist to the popular time travel genre.
A high-concept sci-fi series will always need to get viewers hooked in its first season, or the show will just crumble. Travelers ran for three strong seasons because of the solid foundational work its first 12 episodes performed. Travelers season 1 works because the show is ultimately character-driven, exploring time travelers adjusting to a new life and introducing high-stakes missions that prevent the show from going stale.
Why Netflix’s Travelers Has One Of Its Best First Seasons
Travelers season 1 is a solid debut for the sci-fi series, establishing core elements related to its time travel and dystopian future that will continue to grow over the show’s other two seasons. In the season 1 finale, there is a major reveal that changes the game, upping the stakes for season 2 and ensuring that new viewers will want to immediately put on the next episode.
9 Years Later, I’ve Just Discovered the Best Sci-Fi Show of All Time
After admiring a Netflix sci-fi show for nine long years, I have finally discovered an even better TV series on the streamer from the same genre.
One can also quantify just how good the Netflix series’ first season is by its overwhelmingly positive reception. After all, Travelers season 1 has a rare perfect 100% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Additionally, the first season of the Netflix sci-fi series also boasts an eye-popping 95% audience score. As such, it is easy to see how Travelers season 1 is a success.
On IMDB, Travelers season 1’s lowest-rated episode is “Protocol 5,” with a 7.3. All other season 1 episodes are rated 7.6 or better, with the sci-fi series ending strongly, as Travelers season 1’s finale, “Grace,” is rated 8.6. Even though the story was cut short at three seasons, Travelers is excellent all the way through, with its pitch-perfect first season ensuring new viewers feel the time invested in it pays off.
