Netflix’s TV show library keeps getting bigger with every new month, and with less than half of the year down, the streaming service has already noted down several global hits. From limited series like His & Hers to returning favorites like The Night Agent, Netflix has had quite a few popular shows in 2026. Out of them, the thriller genre has been one that is popping up constantly.
Returning Netflix Original series like The Night Agent, The Lincoln Lawyer, and more have contributed to that, with upcoming comebacks from shows like Beef and The Gentlemen also set to keep Netflix burning hot. Currently, the streaming service is seeing a fierce battle between two recent releases, and one of them has dethroned the other on the streamer’s global charts.
According to FlixPatrol, Detective Hole is currently the most-watched TV show on Netflix globally. The crime thriller series has dethroned new arrival Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, which sat atop the streamer’s worldwide rankings a day before. Below the two thriller series are shows like the live-action One Piece, the mystery series Beauty in Black, the disaster show Radioactive Emergency, and more.
Detective Hole is based on The Devil’s Star, the fifth novel in author Jo Nesbø’s Harry Hole series. Nesbø also serves as the showrunner of the new Netflix crime thriller series, which stars Tobias Santelmann as Harry Hole and DC Universe actor Joel Kinnaman as Tom Waaler. Detective Hole is currently the most-watched show on Netflix in 37 countries.
In the United States, Detective Hole stands as the streamer’s 5th most-watched series. Despite being the victor when taking into account Netflix’s global charts, the horror thriller series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen stands ahead of the Norwegian crime drama nationwide, ranking as high as the 2nd most-watched Netflix series in the United States. WWE’s Raw is #1.
Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole debuted with a rare perfect 100% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, which has since gone slightly down to a near-perfect 92%. The 9-part crime thriller series also has a strong 76% audience score. As for Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, the horror thriller series boasts a solid 86% critics’ score, with a positive 65%.
In ScreenRant’s Detective Hole review, Dhruv Sharma gave the new Netflix crime series a 6 out of 10, saying, “Netflix’s atmospheric crime thriller is elevated by a stellar cast.” As for ScreenRant’s Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen review, Dani Kessel Odom gave the show a 9 out of 10, saying, “Netflix’s twisted & gory horror will leave you reeling.” For now, Detective Hole wins on Netflix’s charts.
