One Piece season 2’s ending saw Luffy and the other Straw Hats dedicating themselves to aiding Vivi, setting up the story of season 3. Given that the aforementioned civil war is brewing as a result of One Piece‘s Baroque Works and their political manipulation of the kingdom, season 3 is expected to feature several high-stakes action sequences.
Despite that, a big one from the original One Piece manga could be changed, due to a similar fight scene being created for Netflix’s live-action story in season 2.
It Doesn’t Look Like Usopp & Chopper’s “Baseball” Fight Will Happen In One Piece Season 3
The fight in question features the team-up of Usopp and Chopper, who face off against two Baroque Works agents, Mr. 4 and Miss Merry Christmas. Mr. 4’s primary ability is his usage of baseball bombs, which he launches at his enemies using a four-ton baseball bat. This is a large part of their duel with Chopper and Usopp, though this may be changed in Netflix’s One Piece.
The reason for this is a fight scene in One Piece season 2 that was only referenced, and never actually shown, during the original anime. In One Piece season 2, episode 6, Smoker and Tashigi are shown visiting a Marine base that had been destroyed by Baroque Works. There, they encounter Mr. 11 and Miss Thursday.
Given that this fight was not shown in the anime, Netflix’s One Piece had the liberty to come up with new powers for the characters. Where Miss Thursday is concerned, she was shown utilizing baseballs as her primary weapon before being defeated by Smoker. Due to the similarities between these powers and what should be Mr. 4’s abilities, season 3 could be different.
This may all mean that Usopp and Chopper never face off against Mr. 4 and Miss Merry Christmas. If they do, it will likely be changed so as not to be too similar to the Smoker vs. Miss Thursday fight scene in season 2. Either way, a major fight from the One Piece anime and manga is going to be very different in Netflix’s live-action version.
One Piece Reworking The Baseball Fight For Live-Action Might Be A Good Idea
Although changing such a big fight scene could be controversial among fans of the anime and manga, One Piece‘s live-action adaptation of it may be a good idea. The fight is considered one of the most underrated, major moments in the entire Alabasta saga, due to the brutal nature of the duel, the teamwork between Chopper and Usopp, and its emotional core.
As a result, the fight scene almost needs to be included, but has the potential to be shown in an overall more serious way than the anime did. In live-action, certain things that worked in the source material may not translate as effectively. After all, the baseball fight scene in One Piece season 2 was fun, humorous, and engaging, but certainly wasn’t presented as a serious, life-threatening encounter.
Having a similar scene in such a climactic moment in One Piece season 3 could lessen the stakes and impact of a brutal fight for two major Straw Hat Pirates. Therefore, altering the scene to be different from the season 2 fight by giving Mr. 4 slightly different powers that are more serious in tone could really work for such a major action beat in the story.
With all of this in mind, maybe One Piece season 2’s baseball fight scene and the ramifications this has on season 3 could prove to work out for the better, after all.
