Netflix’s The Four Seasons Reveals Season 2 Release Date & First-Look Images After Steve Carell’s Shocking Fate

Based on the 1981 movie starring Alan Alda and Carol Burnett, season 1 of the Netflix series centers on three couples who go on a trip together during every season of the year, with a two-episode arc for each vacation. The group’s dynamics are upended when it is discovered that Nick (Carell) is leaving his wife, Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver), and begins dating the much younger Ginny (Erika Hennigsen). The largely comedic story takes an unexpected turn when Nick dies in a car crash during the penultimate episode and with The Four Seasons finale revealing that Ginny is pregnant with Nick’s child.

Netflix has now announced that The Four Seasons will return with season 2 on May 28. Anne, Ginny, Kate (Fey), Jack (Will Forte), Danny (Colman Domingo), and Claude (Marco Calvani) are all returning and can be seen in the season’s first-look images, with the group vacationing on the beach, in the mountains, and drinking wine, along with a glimpse of Ginny’s pregnancy. After some resistance to Ginny, she was ultimately accepted by the group, and it was made clear in the finale that Nick’s friends, and even his ex-wife, would support her moving forward. The image of Anne and the pregnant Ginny smiling as they walk together indicates that this promise will be honored, and that Ginny is a full-fledged member of the friend group now who will be a part of all the seasonal vacations.

Netflix’s The Four Seasons cast previously included Alan Alda as Anne’s father, Don, in a nod to his leading role in the original movie. It is unconfirmed whether he will reprise the role for season 2 or if any other actors outside the returning main cast will be back. Fey has spoken about the possibility of Carell’s Nick returning via flashbacks, but even if this does not happen, the character’s memory will inevitably play an important role in the upcoming season given his long history with the group and due to the impending birth of his child.

Since all season 1 episodes were released on May 1, 2025, a May 28, 2026 premiere for season 2 is a relatively quick turnaround, especially given the years-long hiatus that has become the norm for many streaming shows. It helps that the series was renewed less than two weeks after it came to Netflix, ensuring that work could begin quickly on the next season. With a 78% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, reviews for The Four Seasons were generally positive as well.
