Netflix’s Zombie Series That’s Worth The Wait

It’s all too common for fan-favorite Netflix series to have long waits between seasons, but its best zombie show is pushing half a decade. From Stranger Things to Bridgerton, many of Netflix’s best shows are infamous for their lengthy hiatuses. The quality typically reflects the extra time it took to release, but it doesn’t make the waiting any less agonizing.

Sadly, All of Us Are Dead is nearing five years of inter-season limbo. The horror K-drama was an instant classic, almost immediately securing a renewal and leaving Netflix subscribers to anxiously await its return. The release date for All of Us Are Dead season 2 has been an ongoing mystery, but the wait isn’t over yet, to countless fans’ chagrin.

All Of Us Are Dead Season 1 Dropped In Early 2022

The K-Drama’s First Showing Set High Expectations

When All of Us Are Dead first premiered in 2022, it was abundantly clear that Netflix had something special. Prior to All of Us Are Dead, plenty of K-dramas about zombies had aired and eventually faded into obscurity, failing to impress viewers or leave a lasting impression due to tired clichés, uninspired creature designs, and a lack of memorable characters.

In stark contrast to its predecessors, however, All of Us Are Dead felt fresh from the very first episode. The series starts out like a normal teen drama, setting the stage with the familiar stronghold of a high school campus and a diverse array of rambunctious teens. Of course, everything changes when a mysterious virus hits, leaving the students trapped.

The school becomes a makeshift quarantine zone, but as more and more of their peers transform into flesh-eating monsters, the main characters must take drastic measures to survive. Throwing a group of teenagers into the action adds a fascinating edge to the show’s classic zombie formula, making All of Us Are Dead equal parts sci-fi apocalypse and relatable coming-of-age drama.

Despite its protagonists’ youth, All of Us Are Dead pulls no punches. The horror is spine-chilling, the fight scenes palpably stressful, the twists endlessly devastating. In its debut season, the K-drama exhibited a true mastery of its genre— and it has only aged better. Nevertheless, the latest news regarding season 2 doesn’t bode well for the show’s more impatient fans.

All Of Us Are Dead Likely Won’t Return This Year

The Drama’s Long-Awaited Return Isn’t Coming In 2026

Although All of Us Are Dead season 2 was confirmed all the way back in June 2022, the next batch of episodes likely won’t drop on Netflix until 2027 at the earliest. Unforeseen obstacles initially delayed production, including compulsory military service for multiple cast members, but season 2’s principal photography began in July 2025, fueling hope for a 2026 release.

All of Us Are Dead is based on Joo Dong-geun’s webtoon of the same name, which can still be accessed online.

That optimism proved to be short-lived when Netflix released its 2026 K-drama lineup. There were dozens of exciting new shows, returning favorites like Bloodhounds season 2, and original films, but All of Us Are Dead was noticeably absent from the list. As such, there’s no way the zombie thriller will return this year— barring a surprise release or lineup amendment.

What To Expect From All Of Us Are Dead Season 2

The Second Installment Will Be Worth The Wait

The ending of All of Us Are Dead season 1 could have worked as a series finale as well, but the K-drama left just enough loose ends to build an enthralling narrative for the second season. Though it appeared the zombies were eradicated via a series of explosions, the thriller already established the virus was specifically designed to evolve.

Additionally, season 1 ended with the revelation that there are half-human, half-zombie hybrids that could easily kick-start another apocalypse. Now that the surviving main characters are in college, however, the game has changed— and, with it, the stakes have been raised. With a bigger setting like Seoul rather than a confined high school, ingenuity is the only way to survive.

Whether every endearing character returns or new faces arrive to steal the audience’s hearts, All of Us Are Dead season 2 is incredibly promising. The wait may be extreme, but the vast majority of viewers agree that the second season already seems worth it. Until its release, however, All of Us Are Dead season 1 is the perfect weekend binge.
