New Mangalore Port set to receive Iranian LPG consignment

New Mangalore Port is expected to receive Iranian liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cargo on Tuesday.

Sources said the LPG tanker Aurora is bringing the cargo from the Asaluyeh port in Iran. The tanker, which is sailing under the flag of Madagaskar, is expected to berth at New Mangalore Port on Tuesday. According to New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), Confidence Petroleum will receive the cargo.

Recently, the US temporarily removed sanctions on Iran’s petroleum exports to ease global supplies. Following this, India had bought its first LPG cargo from Iran.

India had stopped energy purchases from Iran in 2019 due to sanctions on Iran by Western nations. Recent reports said that the LPG tanker Aurora was initially bound for China.

Meanwhile, the LPG tanker Hellas Voyager has been discharging around 20000 tonnes of cargo at New Mangalore Port. The LPG tanker, which is sailing under the flag of Marshall Islands, left the Houston port in the US on February 22.

Another LPG tanker Al Ain with 23000 tonnes of cargo is expected to berth at New Mangalore Port during this week. The tanker left Yanbu Industrial port in Saudi Arabia on March 19.

The oil tanker Sunriseway with 1.21 lakh tonnes of Mandji crude oil has been discharging the cargo at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd’s (MRPL) single point mooring (SPM) facility under NMPA. The crude oil tanker, which is sailing under the flag of Liberia, left the port of Cap Lopez in West Africa’s Gabon on March 6.
