Ocarina Of Time Reimagined In Beautiful New Remake

The love for the Legend of Zelda franchise is eternal. It’s undeniable how many installments in the franchise have become timeless classics and, depending on your age, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time might be top of the pile. The first fully realized 3D Zelda adventure launched on the N64 way back in 1998 and has been stealing our hearts ever since. So much so that fans have been recreating it to stunning effect.

Rwanlink is one such creative fan who has recently shared the fruits of his labor on YouTube. The video is around seven minutes long and shows off first a short animation followed by a rather impressive look at a playable section of the game set in and around the Gerudo Fortress. Link has never looked so good in this gorgeous anime powered by Unreal Engine 5.

This Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake Is The Best One Yet

Anime All The Way

We’ve seen faithful remasters before, but this takes it to another level. Adopting a bright hand drawn anime style and showing Link moving through this 3D environment looks simply glorious. Not just a fresh coat of paint or fancy lighting, this looks like a brand-new game. Watching Link move through areas and seeing the all-female Gerudo guards along with Epona in this beautifully rendered world is simply jaw dropping.

The moment when it switches from the short animation to a playable game is flawless. Seeing the camera movements as Link begins to explore the Fortress grounds feels almost magical as it transitions seamlessly between cut scene to in-game action. It’s clear that this was a passion project and shows the love and attention a game as old as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time still garners to this day.

For now, there is no released playable version for us to get our hands on, which is a shame. We’ll have to content ourselves with fawning over the video ad nauseam or perhaps while away our time playing the chaotic Zelda: Twilight Princess online multiplayer instead.

I Need An Official Zelda Remake To Look Like This

Give Us More Please

The only downside to this impressive showcase is that there’s not more to see. It’s pretty clear that Unreal Engine 5 can handle a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and we’d all love to see it. Imagine replaying the N64 classic from start to finish with this level of detail. Getting to play a gorgeous open world Zelda game like this would be amazing. It would be an absolute joy to see other famous locales from the original game fully realized in this stunning art style.

Sure, we could be playing Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in first perspective mode, but we’d rather be using a chicken as a hand glider in Karariko village or fishing for hours in the pond near lake Hylia. The water effects on display in the video alone would be enough to keep players zen and waste a few hours fishing when they should be battling Ganondorf. Picture, if you will, galloping across Hyrule Field towards the castle with the sun beaming down on you.

Forget the upcoming live action movie, or getting a new Zelda game on the Switch 2… We want to play this instead!
