One Piece Season 2’s 10 Most Powerful Characters, Ranked

One Piece season 2 includes several new and returning characters; here are the 10 most powerful, ranked. As is expected, given the scale of the source material, One Piece‘s cast of characters vastly increased in season 2. Many new characters were introduced, be it the agents of One Piece‘s villainous Baroque Works or new heroes and allies of the Straw Hats.

By the time of One Piece season 2’s ending, the Straw Hat Pirates had grown by two; Tony Tony Chopper joined them officially as the crew’s medic, while Nefertari Vivi agreed to stay with them until her kingdom of Alabasta was freed.

The latter aspect sets up One Piece season 3’s story, which is only sure to continue introducing vital, not to mention powerful, characters from the many islands of the Grand Line. Concerning just how powerful these characters may be, the scaling in One Piece is admittedly difficult to gauge.

Some characters hinted at in the franchise’s manga and anime are known as some of its most powerful, but the live-action show has yet to establish that. Others from One Piece season 2, like Mihawk and Gold Roger, are very strong, but not part of the show’s present timeline. With that said, here are the 10 most powerful characters from One Piece season 2’s present narrative timeline.

Sanji

Concerning the wider Straw Hats besides Luffy, Sanji is considered the second-best fighter in the crew. Nami is strong in her own right, and Usopp has his moments, but there is no denying that Sanji and Zoro are the two hand-to-hand powerhouses of the Straw Hats. As such, Sanji comes in as One Piece season 2’s 10th-most powerful character.

Using his feet as weapons, Sanji has been shown to defeat several powerful enemies. From Mr. 13 and his partner, Miss Friday, to Chess and Kuromarimo, Wapol’s strongest guards, the Straw Hat is a formidable fighter. Taking somewhat into account what is known from the manga, Sanji will only grow stronger as the series goes on.

Where the live-action is concerned, though, Sanji almost broke a T. rex’s neck with one kick, alone proving how strong he can be in the world of One Piece.

Nico Robin (Miss All Sunday)

Nico Robin is a new One Piece villain in season 2, the second-in-command of Baroque Works. As a result, the live-action One Piece shows Nico Robin as a highly formidable and powerful person. She possesses the powers of the Flower-Flower Devil Fruit, allowing her to sprout copies of her limbs to defeat her enemies.

From annihilating an entire fortress full of Marines to incapacitating the Straw Hat Pirates with relative ease, Nico has proven how strong her Devil Fruit abilities can be. The only reason she isn’t higher on this list comes from the anime; beyond her Devil Fruit powers, Nico Robin isn’t much of a fighter.

However, the same can be said for Nami, yet that didn’t stop Netflix’s One Piece from changing the manga to make her more formidable. Whether this happens with Nico Robin in the future remains to be seen.

At this point, though, her Devil Fruit powers earn her the ninth spot on this list of One Piece‘s most powerful characters, with her lack of fighting skills beyond that being the only thing preventing her from being ranked higher.

Zoro

Next, we have Roronoa Zoro, arguably the best fighter of the Straw Hat Pirates, discounting Luffy. Zoro is on a mission to be the world’s greatest swordsman; aside from direct rivals like Mihawk and others of this ilk, he is on his way to proving he will succeed. Zoro vs. the 100 Baroque Works agents in One Piece season 2, episode 3 is enough in itself to warrant his place on this list.

Zoro proved how excellent his hand-to-hand abilities are, even beyond Sanji’s, who would probably struggle more in that same situation. Compared to Nico Robin, it is hard to imagine Zoro not beating her once getting past her Devil Fruit powers. Aside from Luffy, Netflix’s One Piece makes it abundantly clear that Zoro is the Straw Hats’ strongest warrior and their best line of defense.

Luffy

The captain of the Straw Hat Pirates himself, though, is next. Luffy’s rubber Devil Fruit powers offer him a great deal of, forgive the pun, flexibility in his fights. He can adapt to face several foes, regardless of their abilities, and is much more difficult to harm than the other Straw Hats.

Alongside the more offensive abilities granted by his Gum-Gum Fruit, Luffy can stand up to the live-action One Piece‘s strongest villains so far, like Arlong, Buggy, Wapol, and several Baroque Works members. That said, at this point in the Netflix show’s timeline, Luffy still has room to improve.

The full depths of his abilities from the manga and anime are yet to be explored, and Luffy is yet to face and/or overcome some of his strongest villains, including some others further up on this list. As such, Luffy ranks as the seventh-strongest One Piece season 2 character.

Smoker

Smoker is one of the aforementioned villains that Luffy has yet to overcome in Netflix’s One Piece, alone earning him a spot above the captain of the Straw Hats. The fight between Luffy and Smoker in One Piece season 2, episode 1 went poorly for the former, proving just how strong the latter is.

Smoker’s Devil Fruit abilities offer him a great deal of offensive abilities, but his transformation into a cloud of smoke makes him a master of defense. Were it not for the interference of another One Piece character, Smoker may well have killed Luffy.

When adding to this the Marine’s easy defeat of several Baroque Works agents and his rank being the sixth-highest in his own organization, it seems fitting to rank Smoker as the sixth-strongest One Piece season 2 character.

Crocodile (Mr. 0)

Crocodile is yet another of the opponents Luffy is yet to face in One Piece, whose status alone ranks him as the fifth-strongest One Piece season 2 character. Not only is Crocodile one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, but he is also the secret leader of Baroque Works, with both positions offering him the resources and manpower to counter most in the Grand Line.

Personally, Crocodile has a Devil Fruit ability that only bolsters his power level. His Sand-Sand Fruit allows him to avoid damage by turning into sand, much like Smoker with, well, smoke. Also, he has offensive powers like creating sandstorms and draining the moisture from organic beings.

With a former bounty of 81 million berry before the World Government revoked it, Crocodile is one of the most notorious former pirates at this point in One Piece‘s timeline. As the leader of Baroque Works, he is easily above Nico Robin at this point, as well as the likes of Sanji and Zoro, whom she overcame with her Devil Fruit powers.

He is also higher in esteem as a Warlord of the Seas than Marines like Smoker, and Luffy has yet to face him. As such, Crocodile’s place is solidified, which One Piece season 3 will prove by showing him in all his glory.

Dorry & Brogy

Dorry and Brogy are the giants of Elbaph found on Little Garden in One Piece season 2. As literal giants, the two are more powerful, at least concerning brute strength, than any of the regular-sized characters below them on this list. It is difficult to imagine Zoro, Sanji, Nico, Crocodile, Smoker, or Luffy outmatching them in this regard, regardless of their abilities or Devil Fruit powers.

The Baroque Works agents managed to defeat the giants, but only by using trickery. Without this, Dorry and Brogy could easily crush them, figuratively and literally. Furthermore, their later appearances in the One Piece manga’s Elbaph Arc only increased their strength.

The giants also defeated the giant goldfish using blunt weaponry, something that Luffy did not look like doing before that. With bounties of 100 million berry each, it is clear that the in-universe power-scaling of the World Government ranks the two giants as bigger threats than Luffy and even Mr. 0/Crocodile.

Sabo

Sabo is a mysterious character who only appeared as a very brief One Piece season 2 Easter egg. As such, he could easily be placed at the very bottom of any list regarding season 2’s characters, as he was only seen walking out of a door from behind Dragon in episode 1.

When looking into the manga, however, Sabo’s power becomes clear. He is the second-in-command of the Revolutionary Army with a Fire-Fire Fruit. This is yet to be shown in live-action, as are his later manga fights. Still, as someone trained by Dragon, the most wanted man in the world, he is one of the strongest One Piece characters whose strength is yet to be fully seen.

Garp

Garp is a vice-admiral of the Marines, immediately placing him above Smoker in terms of strength based on One Piece‘s in-universe hierarchy. He has also shown incredible feats of raw power in the live-action show, from throwing cannonballs with extreme force to defeating Luffy with relative ease.

It has been stated in the source material that Garp should arguably be an admiral of the Marines, typifying how his power is viewed by others. Netflix’s live-action One Piece is yet to showcase just how powerful Garp is, but there have been hints, such as his past with Gold Roger and incidents like God Valley being mentioned.

Knowing about these from the original One Piece story, it is clear that none but one surpasses Garp in terms of power.

Dragon

That character is Dragon, the mysterious leader of the Revolutionary Army. As alluded to, Dragon trained Sabo, immediately ranking him above his lieutenant. One Piece season 2, episode 1 also saw Dragon defeat Smoker with no effort at all after the latter’s defeat of Luffy, explaining Dragon’s ranking above both.

Dragon is also considered the biggest threat to the World Government by Garp, putting the two on a level footing. The only factors ranking Dragon above Garp actually come from the original One Piece manga.

A classic manga trope is that sons often surpass their fathers. As the son of Garp, Dragon can be considered more powerful than him. Moreover, Dragon is yet to have an actual fight in the manga, despite it nearing 1200 chapters long. Clearly, the full extent of Dragon’s abilities is being saved for the Final Saga, indicating he is incredibly overpowered.

All of this, along with the theories that he has a Devil Fruit, puts Dragon as possibly the strongest One Piece character of them all, and definitely the most powerful in Netflix’s season 2.
