Outer Banks was created by Jonas Pate, who has also produced series such as Surface and Good & Evil. Pate also recently served as the creator and show runner for the Prime Video series The Runarounds. Like Outer Banks, the series was also a drama that focused on teens as the leads.
Now, per Deadline, it looks like The Runarounds has been canceled. This cancellation comes after just a single season, and according to some sources, it was actually quietly canceled months ago.
This news comes after several key things happened to the show’s team. The series’ lead, Lilah Pate (who also so happens to be the daughter of its creator), recently booked a key role in the Tulsa King spinoff Frisco King. This is slated to be a big series, so she would likely not be available for more seasons of The Runarounds.
On the more negative side, the cancellation reveal comes after Jonas Pate was accused of inappropriate behavior on set. In October 2025, Outer Banks star Chase Stokes claimed to be a witness to Pate being aggressive towards a production assistant on set.
Specifically, Stokes claimed that Pate was both physically and verbally aggressive to the PA, grabbing and shaking them. It was allegedly severe enough that Stokes had to intervene. Some sources say this was typical behavior for Pate on set, making it more concerning.
Despite this controversy, no legal action has been taken against Pate to date. In fact, Outer Banks season 5 continued production without any real consequences for Pate. The series is slated to air this season sometime later this year.
The announcement about The Runarounds did not specifically link its cancellation to the Pate controversy. The timelines line up such that it could have been a factor, with the show dropping on September 1, 2025 and the accusations coming out in late October. Whether it actually was connected, though, will remain unconfirmed until further developments.
Despite the cancellation, the story is not completely over for The Runarounds crew. The show, which focuses on recent high school graduates who form a rock band, features real-life musicians William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock, and Jesse Golliher. This group is staying together and is even on a tour that will continue through June of this year.
