Paul Bettany Responds To Lord Voldemort Casting Rumors For Harry Potter

Rumors have been swirling online regarding who will play Lord Voldemort in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series, and Paul Bettany finally reveals if he’ll be taking on the dark role.

HBO’s revival of the magical Harry Potter franchise has caused a lot of online speculation ever since it was announced. So far, several characters have been cast, but there has been no word about who would be playing the Dark Lord, formerly known as Tom Riddle. Several fans initially suspected that Cillian Murphy might portray the evil wizard. However, the actor has firmly shut down that rumor, sending theorists back to square one.

Another popular choice was Bettany, and ever since Murphy denied his involvement in the Harry Potter reboot, all eyes have been on the Marvel star. In an interview at the Saturn Awards with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan, the actor finally addressed the rumors. He revealed that while he loved the franchise, he was not going to suit up as Lord Voldemort. “I haven’t heard anything about that. I mean I’m a big fan of the IP, and I’m a big fan of HBO, but nobody has called me up about it.

Bettany is best known for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he portrayed Vision in several films and later reprised the role in the Disney+ series WandaVision. The actor has also embraced darker roles such as the merciless crime lord Dryden Vos in Solo: A Star Wars Story. His range and experience playing more complex characters could be why fans believe that he would be a good fit for the role.

Despite the ongoing speculation, HBO has remained tight-lipped about who will portray Lord Voldemort in the upcoming TV adaptation. The new series will retell the story of Harry Potter across multiple seasons, with each installment adapting one of J. K. Rowling’s beloved books. Actor Warwick Davis, who will return in the revival as Professor Filius Flitwick, even went as far as to say that the HBO show will be more accurate and true to the source material than the original films.

There is currently no set release date for HBO’s Harry Potter reboot at the time of this article’s publication. However, the studio did confirm that the series will come out in 2027.
