As you’ll likely already be aware, there are a ton of free-to-play efforts out there that are well worth a second look, and Sony’s flagship platform is no exception to the rule.
With the Easter weekend now upon us and plenty of time to fill around eating chocolate and roast dinner, one underrated MMORPG is well worth you consideration if you’re looking for something to while away the hours.
You Don’t Need PlayStation Plus For This Free Game
Over on the PlayStation store, you should be able to find the page for Throne and Liberty, a free-to-play, guild-focused MMORPG that places the focus on delivering massive-scale PvP and PvE gameplay.
If you’re usually the type to avoid MMORPGs because there are way too many buttons to press, Throne and Liberty developers FirstSpark Games have taken an approach much more like The Elder Scrolls Online, making it very comfortable to play natively on console.
The game boasts an enormous dynamic open-world to explore, where factors like what the weather is like and the time of day alters how encounters can play out. Interestingly, Throne and Liberty also eschews the usual class system in favor of players defining their playstyle via the weapons and gear that they use.
It also comes with a bunch of other cool, and relatively unique, gameplay features, like the ability to transform into a bunch of different animals, as well as buy housing to make a life for yourself in-game. Even more excitingly, if you link you Amazon Games iD to your PSN account, you can get the following free items to kickstart your adventure:
- Royal Crown Orb Cosmetic
- Title: Well Connected
- Emote: Pose V
- 1,000 Ornate Coins
- Title: Homebody
- Noble Growthstone Chest
Throne And Liberty Is Absolutely Massive
As you might expect with an MMORPG, the game is also an absolutely enormous experience, with ~100 hours to get through the main story beats, and at least three times more than that to explore most of what’s on offer (according to HowLongToBeat.com).
Having played Throne and Liberty, it’s a very fun, stripped-back version of the games that made the genre so great, and an excellent way to play an MMO if you’re exclusively a console player.
