Over on Reddit, fans are wracking their brains trying to figure out the best recommendation for someone who likes Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Thankfully, there’s an easy answer.
Zelda Fans With PlayStation Plus Should Try This Free Game
It’s Worth Your Time
In a collective moment, the PlayStation Plus subreddit responded swiftly. Fans were quick to recommend Immortals Fenyx Rising, a game from Ubisoft released in 2020. It’s now available on PlayStation Plus, and people couldn’t be happier.
In the thread, fans are heaping praise on the open world adventure: “The game looks sweet, has good game-play, puzzles, and loads of exploration within Greek-god-themed regions. If one likes Greek methodology, this game has all that. It has comedic moments, depending on what kind of comedy one might like here (I myself enjoyed it and laughed a bunch). Really enjoyed the puzzles, the look of the game, fights, and the comedy the most.”
Our review even referred to it as “Odyssey of the Wild” and noted some similarities: “Immortals Fenyx Rising is an excellent game that wears its inspirations on its sleeve. People who don’t own a Nintendo Switch should check it out, as it offers the closest approximation of Breath of the Wild that doesn’t require resorting to the gacha elements of Genshin Impact.”
One thing people seem divided on is the style of comedy and characterization of the cast, which is somewhat dependent on your life for Greek mythology. There’s also a DLC available for Fenyx Rising called Myths of the Eastern Realm, based on Chinese Mythology. If you’re interested and don’t own PlayStation Plus, you can find Immortals Fenyx Rising on PC, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Another fan recommended Kena: Bridge of Spirits, which is oddly coming to Switch 2 as of today. Additional recommendations include Genshin Impact, Crimson Desert, Horizon Zero Dawn 1+2, and The Witcher 3.
Immortals Is A Massively Underrated Ubisoft Title
It Should Have Done Better
I played through Immortals Fenyx Rising when it was released, and had a blast. It’s not a typical Ubisoft game, as there are tons of different mechanics to break down the monotony of many other open-world adventures, plus the aesthetics were unique. The key ingredients that make it a success are action platforming, flight, and a gigantic, vibrant, open-world map.
If you have PlayStation Plus and haven’t tried Immortals Fenyx Rising, fix that. You may not love it, but if you have any affinity for open-world exploration, odds are it could be your next big game.
