Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned Thrissur into a festive spectacle on Sunday evening with a vibrant roadshow, as the city gears up for the iconic Thrissur Pooram next month.

The high-energy procession at Swaraj Round, covering around 900 metres, significantly boosted the BJP-led NDA’s campaign ahead of the Assembly elections. Thousands of people, including women and children, lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister, who travelled in an open jeep along with NDA candidates C.C. Mukundan, Padmaja Venugopal, and K.K. Anish.

Adding to the festive mood, BJP leaders arranged traditional art forms such as Pulikkali and Margam Kali along the route to welcome the Prime Minister.

Thrissur, considered an A-class constituency for the BJP, recorded around 19 per cent vote share in the last Lok Sabha elections. With a triangular contest expected, the party is banking on its existing support base and the “Modi factor” to convert enthusiasm into votes—much like the success of Suresh Gopi in the parliamentary polls.

Notably, this marks Modi’s third visit to Thrissur in two and a half years. Unlike previous occasions, no public meeting was held this time, with the party focusing entirely on the roadshow as a strategic campaign move.
