Eilish, 24, is best known for her monumentally successful music career that already includes multiple Grammy and Oscar wins, which include Best Original Song for No Time to Die and Barbie. She has only recently begun her professional acting career and is set to make her feature film debut in an upcoming adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s iconic novel The Bell Jar. Before that, she appeared in one of the best shows to binge in just one night, streaming now on Prime Video.
Prime Video’s 7-Part Crime Thriller Is A Perfect One-Night Binge
Swarm is a perfect show to binge in one night on Prime Video, thanks to its crime and psychological thriller elements and brief runtime of less than 4 hours. The series earned a Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 87% and received mostly positive feedback from audiences as well. With Glover behind the camera and Eilish in front of it, Swarm offers a unique and buzz-worthy viewing experience unlike anything else on Prime Video.
Swarm is a satirical dark thriller with comedic elements that was released in 2023 as a Prime Video original miniseries. The story follows protagonist Andrea “Dre” Greene (Dominique Fishback), who is obsessed with an internationally famous pop star known as Ni’Jah (Nirine S. Brown). Due to its similar subject material, the series has been compared to the celebrated animated film Perfect Blue, which is also speculated to have inspired the Oscar-winning movie, Black Swan.
Netflix’s 4-Part Thriller Is So Wild, It’s Worth An Easy One-Night Binge
Netflix’s forgotten and harshly criticized 4-part thriller series from 3 years ago is so wild that it’s still worth an easy one-night binge this week.
What’s more, Swarm is widely known to be inspired by the real-life superstar celebrity singer Beyoncé and her notoriously devoted fanbase, the BeyHive. In fact, the first episode of Swarm opens with the tongue-in-cheek disclaimer, “This is not a work of fiction. Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, or events, is intentional.” In the Prime Video series, Ni’Ja’s fans are collectively called The Swarm. After a tragedy leaves her without purpose, Dre travels across the U.S. to murder people who speak negatively about Ni’Jah on the internet.
Swarm Features Billie Eilish’s First Scripted Acting Performance
Not only is Billie Eilish featured in Swarm, but the series marks her first-ever scripted acting performance of all time. Eilish’s presence in Swarm is certainly ironic and intentional, since she is one of the few pop stars who is on the same plateau of fame as Beyoncé. That being said, Eilish’s character is the furthest thing from a celebrity in Swarm, and she does not play an exaggerated version of herself.
Eilish’s character, Eva, is a leader of a female empowerment commune in Tennessee, which Dre encounters during her cross-country trip. Although Eva only appears in episode 4 of Swarm, she leaves a big impact on the story, as not everything about her is what it appears to be. Without getting into spoiler territory, Eva initially attempts to befriend Dre, inviting her to a healing session, which ends up having unexpected results.
In her first-ever onscreen scripted role in Swarm, Eilish shows great ability and potential for future projects such as The Bell Jar. She is a big reason why Swarm is worth a one-night binge on Prime Video, even three years after the series premiered. While there is no second season in development, Swarm serves as a standalone miniseries with a great premise, strong performances, and chilling thriller elements that will keep viewers hooked from start to finish.
