Mr. & Mrs. Smith is a must-binge thriller series on Prime Video. partly due to its outstanding cast. Inspired by the 2005 original movie starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, this 8-part series revamped the original premise and added a modern, even sci-fi and futuristic, twist. 2024’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith stars Maya Erskine as Jane Smith and Donald Glover, who also co-created the series, as John Smith, who are assigned to each other as a married couple who are also disguised as spies and assassins.

One of the most exciting parts about Mr. & Mrs. Smith on Prime Video is its star-studded cast. Apart from its two leads, the series features guest appearances and supporting roles by Paul Dano, Parker Posey, Wagner Moura, Ron Perlman, Alexander Skarsgård, John Tuturro, Michaela Coel, Eiza Gonzalez, and more. Very few, if any, other Prime Video shows have an ensemble cast that is quite this stacked. While some actors are featured more than others, the wide ensemble collectively fits quite well into the story.

Without getting into spoiler territory, the variety of A-list talent in Mr. & Mrs. Smith on Prime Video is a crucial element to the series – not only in season 1, but in season 2 as well. In fact, it’s a large part of the reason why Mr. & Mrs. Smith can continue on as an anthology series, similar to Netflix’s breakout series Beef, rather than carry on the original stories with season 1’s characters. Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2 will feature new performances by Mark Eydelshteyn, a breakout star of 2025’s Best Picture winner Anora, and Sophie Thatcher, best known for Yellowjackets, Heretic, and Companion.

Nevertheless, Mr. & Mrs. Smith on Prime Video is so well-done and has such great performances that it’s worth revisiting, especially if you haven’t seen it since its early 2024 premiere. It’s somewhat surprising that Prime Video hasn’t placed Mr. & Mrs. Smith, one of its best new shows of 2024, on a faster production track, although confirmation of a second season is promising. In fairness. Prime Video may have been eager to churn out season 2 as soon as last year, but co-creator Donald Glover’s schedule may not have been free for it, as he is also the world-famous hip-hop artist Childish Gambino.

Due to its remarkably stacked cast, one of the very best out of any streaming series on Prime Video, Mr. & Mrs. Smith will always be a great show to binge, re-watch, and recommend as the wait for season 2 continues.
