Prime Video’s Fallout Crowned The Queen Of Streaming TV

The queen of streaming television has been officially crowned after a Prime Video dystopian series’ record-breaking viewership. Some of Prime Video’s shows are among the most popular on any streaming service, including The Boys, Fallout, Reacher, Invincible, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

After shattering the Prime Video record for a returning show, Fallout has cemented itself as one of the platform’s most successful shows. Season 2 had the second all-time highest viewership for a returning series, and both seasons are among the top four most-watched seasons in the streamer’s history. There were 83 million global viewers for season 2 in the first 91 days after release, and 100 million viewers in those 91 days for seasons 1 and 2 combined.

Fallout Confirmed Ella Purnell As The Queen Of Great Streaming Shows

Ella Purnell as Lucy MacLean in Fallout season 2

The unparalleled streaming numbers for Fallout season 2 crown Ella Purnell as the queen of streaming television. Her portrayal of Lucy MacLean has been acclaimed since season 1 and is frequently mentioned in reviews as being one of the best parts of the show. In season 2, she brings further depth and nuance to the character, whose compassionate, moral, and cheerful ways are tested by the harshness of the Wasteland, which is gradually changing her.

It takes more than one widely viewed series and an impressive performance to be the queen of streaming TV, though. Ella Purnell’s other streaming shows include Arcane, Yellowjackets, Sweetpea, Star Trek: Prodigy, and Invincible. She voices Jinx in Netflix’s Arcane, which has a perfect 100% score from critics and an 87% score from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The story primarily revolves around Jinx and her sister Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and it is commonly hailed as a two-season masterpiece.

In Yellowjackets, Purnell plays Jackie Taylor, the captain of a high school soccer team that find themselves stranded in the wilderness after a plane crash. Jackie was the ultimate popular girl in high school, but her social standing changes completely in the wilderness as she struggles to adapt and contribute to survival as much as her teammates.

While Yellowjackets‘ Jackie struggles to get her hands dirty, Purnell plays Rhiannon Lewis in Sweetpea, with this character developing a robust appetite for killing. As for the actor’s animated streaming TV roles beyond Arcane, she voices Gwyn in Star Trek: Prodigy and Jane in Invincible. Gwyn is a major character in both seasons of Star Trek: Prodigy, but Jane is a more minor character who Purnell only voices in season 2, episode 8, “I Thought You Were Stronger.”

Is Fallout Ella Purnell’s Best Streaming Role Yet?

All of Purnell’s streaming roles are excellent, but Fallout is her best yet, even when compared to the high-quality competition. Invincible is easily outmatched based on it only featuring her as a minor character in one episode.

Due to Jackie dying in the Yellowjackets season 1 finale, and the character only appearing as a corpse or in intermittent visions in subsequent seasons, the role is not quite as compelling as Fallout‘s Lucy, nor is it able to be explored as thoroughly. Jackie also largely exists for the sake of Shauna Shipman’s arc and not as much for her own development.

Yellowjackets is returning for a fourth and final season.

What gives Fallout the edge over the others is that Purnell is the face of the show, and her performance as Lucy is one of the main reasons why it has been a major success for Prime Video. Her characters are consistently at the forefront of Arcane and Star Trek: Prodigy, but she is generally not the primary reason people watch those shows, with the animation, story, and being part of beloved franchises being the more common draws. She is the face of Sweetpea, but the Starz series is nowhere near the level of pop culture phenomenon that Fallout has achieved.

With Prime Video having renewed Fallout season 3, Purnell can further solidify Lucy as her best streaming TV role, at least at this point in her career.
