The fan-favorite director publicly criticized the studio for skipping a theatrical release. Further claiming that he wasn’t compensated properly due to the distribution switch after Amazon acquired MGM. But that controversy did not stop the sequel from going ahead. While Gyllenhaal was set to return, filling the director’s chair proved tricky as Guy Ritchie was initially announced to take the reins, but then had to back out, probably because of a packed schedule. Then, Nobody director Ilya Naishuller was brought in. That was the last big update we got about the movie.
But that changes now, as one of the film’s producers, Charles Roven, has given a major update on the movie’s status. He revealed to Screen Rant, “I’ve got two movies that I’m in post-production on, so those are my bright lights at the moment,” he said. Sharing his excitement, he added, “The Thomas Crown Affair and Road House 2. I’m excited about both of those movies.” Given his comments, it seems the Gyllenhaal-led feature is on track for release sometime later this year or early next year.

What Else Do We Know About ‘Road House 2’
The movie has gathered a brilliant cast, including Dave Bautista, Aldis Hodge, Iko Uwais, Jay Hieron, Leila George, Andrew Bachelor, and Peter Sarsgaard. The script is written by Aquaman scribe Will Beall. While plot details are scarce, expect a lot of action and stylistic storytelling, Bautista previously told Collider, “So it’s not a spoiler, but there’s a lot of bad dudes in the film. It’s amplified from the first film.” Adding, “There’s a lot more going on, a lot more fighters, a lot more badasses. But we really, to kind of make it like a film and get people kind of invested in that, we wanted to… it’s got to be some relationships and some backstories. And so we’ve really been trying to flesh that out.”
Meanwhile, you can check out Road House on Amazon Prime. Stay tuned to Collider for more such updates.
