Project Hail Mary Could Be The Start Of An Impressive Box Office Streak For Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling’s latest sci-fi adventure could be the beginning of a great box office streak. Project Hail Mary is currently performing well at the box office. The film has become the highest-grossing film for Amazon MGM Studios, reaching $317 million worldwide.

Additionally, it’s showing great legs at the box office after its excellent opening weekend. In its second weekend, Project Hail Mary made around $54.5 million domestically, experiencing just a 32% drop. It’s a fantastic hold for the Gosling-led film, which is also 2026’s biggest hit so far.

The film is about to face competition from The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, but it still has the potential to be a major hit by the end of its theatrical run. For Gosling, it could just be the start of a stellar streak, as his next two films also have strong chances of being box office hits.

Star Wars: Starfighter Could Be Another Box Office Hit

In Gosling’s next film, he is returning to space, but in another galaxy. Star Wars: Starfighter is set to release in 2027 and is the next film in the franchise following The Mandalorian and Grogu. The film is set after The Rise of Skywalker and stars Gosling as a pilot who becomes involved in a dangerous mission.

Star Wars has a tremendous track record at the box office. Each film in the sequel trilogy and Rogue One made over $1 billion worldwide. However, it’s not guaranteed that each spinoff will be a major hit. Solo made $393 million worldwide, which wasn’t enough to break even against a massive $330.4 million production budget.

Starfighter certainly has promise. It’s directed by Deadpool & Wolverine‘s Shawn Levy, and has a fantastic cast, including Gosling, Amy Adams, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Matt Smith, and Flynn Gray. It’s also a fresh story within the franchise, with new characters separate from the main saga.

Star Wars hasn’t released a film since 2019, and The Mandalorian and Grogu‘s box office results could be an indicator of the franchise’s current popularity. However, even if The Mandalorian’s next adventure underperforms, Gosling’s film has enough reputable talent behind it to help it become a hit.

The Daniels, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, won big at the 2023 Academy Awards with Everything Everywhere All At Once. The 2022 film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, and won seven, including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and Best Director.

It also won three acting awards as Jamie Lee Curtis won Best Supporting Actress, Ke Huy Quan won Best Supporting Actor, and Michelle Yeoh won Best Actress. In addition to its awards’ success, Everything Everywhere was a box office hit, grossing over $147.9 million worldwide.

The Daniels’ next film is set to release in November 2027, and Gosling recently joined the film’s cast. Details of the film are still unknown, but in an interview with Collider at 2026’s South by Southwest festival, Kwan described the movie as a “fun sci-fi action comedy with a big heart.”

The directing duo’s next film has strong box office potential, and its November 2027 release also puts it in a great position for the 2028 Oscars. It’s also a great awards opportunity for Gosling, who’s already generating Oscars buzz for Project Hail Mary. Gosling has two exciting films lined up for 2027, which could build his streak after his latest hit.
