Punisher and Batman’s lives and methodologies obviously deviate from there, but it’s interesting to note those deviations when considering which one of them might come out victorious if they were to go toe-to-toe. Thanks to Benjamin Percy and José Luis Soares’ new ongoing Punisher series, there’s a tenable argument to be made that Frank Castle would best Bruce Wayne, or that he at least wouldn’t go down easily.
Punisher’s Body is a Pain Sponge
The Punisher #2, which was released on March 25, 2026, sees Microchip take Frank to a neurosurgeon to help resolve what’s wrong with his brain after he was previously mind-controlled (by a device in his brain that he “carved out like a bullet,” no less) and is suffering from amnesia. Here, the neurosurgeon offers a light assessment on Frank’s physiology, noting extensive scar tissue and shrapnel, evidence of blast-induced traumatic brain injury (bTBI), and multiple healed aneurysms.
This is summarized by the neurosurgeon saying he’s “a mess,” and that “most people in this kind of shape would be curled up in a ball drooling.” Plus, this is all based only on a scan from the shoulders up.
This is resounding evidence as to why Punisher would be able to take Batman in a fight. Batman’s batarangs and gadgetry would feel like paper planes against Punisher’s flesh, and nothing Batman would resort to in violence in order to subdue Punisher could possibly be worse than anything Punisher has experienced, let alone done to himself.
To be fair, despite all the debilitating damage he’s sustained and not been affected by, Frank’s condition isn’t well at all in the ongoing Punisher run, as he’s experiencing “mysterious blackouts” and “stroking out every time he gets worked up.” Notwithstanding, Frank is a man, like Bruce, and that makes it all the more impressive and intimidating.
It’ll be fascinating to see how Frank recovers from his condition in the current run. Likewise, the MCU’s iteration of Punisher will hopefully continue to develop the character and reinforce him as a menacing, unrelenting foe to any would-be ne’er-do-wells in both The Punisher: One Last Kill and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Punisher is a Deadly Pulp
Assuming that it’s a fight to the death, Punisher would also have no compunction about killing, while Batman would. That doesn’t mean it would be any easier for Punisher to kill him, but it would be fascinating to see how Batman could incapacitate him before Punisher could do so.
Give Punisher the War Machine suit of armor, for example, and his offensive and defensive capabilities would be increased exponentially, but he’d hardly need it to defend himself in a fight against Batman. Batman could sabotage Punisher’s guns and wield theatrics in his favor, such as obscuring himself with smoke pellets or descending upside-down onto an unsuspecting Punisher from a perch above, yet white-knuckle melee combat would not be a walk in the park when Punisher can obviously absorb plenty of physical devastation and hound Batman with merciless intent.
It’s also difficult to gauge how much time either character would realistically need to prepare for the fight. If neither had any and were merely left with their wits and no utility belts or weaponry, Punisher apparently being unkillable by any physiological means, and armed with a Jason Voorhees-esque persistence, makes him an imposing opponent that Batman wouldn’t underestimate.
The Punisher #3 is scheduled to be released on April 29, 2026.
