Ready Or Not 2 Box Office Slammed With Week 2 Drop That’s Twice As Large As The OG Movie’s

2026’s Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is a direct follow-up to the 2019 horror-comedy Ready or Not, immediately following the ending of the original movie as beleaguered bride Grace (Samara Weaving) is thrown into yet another deadly game of hide and seek, this time with her sister Faith (Kathryn Newton) in tow. The sequel debuted last weekend with a $9.1 million domestic haul that beat out the original’s $8 million debut, breaking a record for the burgeoning franchise.

Per Deadline, as of Saturday morning, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is projected to earn a 3-day total of $4 million by the end of its sophomore weekend at the domestic box office. After debuting at a disappointing No. 4 on the domestic chart, it is failing to climb any higher, falling behind Project Hail Mary ($53.1 million), Pixar’s Hoppers ($11.3 million), and even the underperforming new release horror-comedy They Will Kill You ($5 to $5.5 million).

This total sees 2026’s Ready or Not 2 experiencing a week-on-week drop of 56%. Horror movies are often frontloaded, which can result in staggering week 2 drops that frequently hit 60% or more, so this is not necessarily a terrible result for the genre. However, it is devastating when compared to the week 2 drop of the original movie, which only fell 26.2% during its own sophomore weekend in 2019.

By dropping more than twice as hard as Ready or Not, Here I Come has officially fallen behind the original movie at the domestic box office. Its projected cumulative domestic total for the end of the weekend is only $16.2 million, which is more than $4 million behind the $20.4 million cumulative total of the 2019 movie at the same point in its run.

This puts the sequel in a tough position. Even though its opening weekend was slightly higher than Ready or Not, the original movie was a sleeper hit. Strong audience retention is what allowed it to gross $57.6 million against its reported budget of $6 million and become successful enough to earn a sequel. However, Here I Come‘s reported budget is more than double that number, with a $14 million price tag that could potentially place its theatrical break-even point as high as $35 million.

However, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come reviews could be a boon in this situation. Critics have given the new movie a Certified Fresh score of 74% on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer, which does fall behind the original’s 89%, but its audience score on the Popcornmeter is a Verified Hot 90%, which blows the original’s 78% out of the water. Additionally, both movies received the same CinemaScore of B+.

Ultimately, given this projected sophomore drop, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come seems unlikely to become a sleeper hit at the level of the original movie. However, the fact that it hasn’t fallen as far as other recent horror titles (2026’s Scream 7 and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple had two of the 200 biggest week 2 drops of all time, with 73.3% and 72.6% respectively) shows that it could still become enough of a word-of-mouth success to turn a profit in theaters by the end of its run.
