Red Dead Redemption 3 Has The Perfect Two Lead Characters, Fans Agree

The Red Dead franchise has become an example of Rockstar’s narrative capabilities, with Red Dead Redemption 2 being widely regarded as one of the best written video games of all time. Featuring a thought-provoking story, multidimensional characters, and heartbreaking moments, Rockstar makes you care for their characters in all of their beauty and ugliness, which is why it is no surprise that fans are eager for the next installment in the franchise.

However, at the time of writing, Rockstar Games has not confirmed (nor denied) the existence of a potential Red Dead Redemption 3, so, for now, it remains to be seen if it will launch, and if so, which character will head the story. Nevertheless, that has not stopped fans from speculating as to who it could be, and two names keep cropping up.

If Red Dead Redemption 3 Is A Prequel, These Should Be Our Stars

Shared by one user over on r/RDR2 in recent days, an image found in Red Dead Redemption 2 has started yet another discussion over Red Dead Redemption 3‘s potential protagonist, or protagonists, in this case. In the image, a younger Arthur Morgan can be seen posing alongside Dutch and Hosea, which begs the question whether this younger duo could head our next story. “I’m sorry, this picture makes me want another prequel. I want to see the gang in their prime,” the original poster shared in the caption.

As you might expect, another discussion unfolded with fans eager to share their thoughts on the potential duo, or, if not, who they would like to see follow in the footsteps of John Marston and Arthur Morgan. “Honestly, I think the gang’s story is done,” user CactusToothBrush shared. “Go back to during the civil war would be awesome though, with some other bunch of outlaws or like immediately after it.”

It is a common belief that Red Dead Redemption 3 should move away from the Van der Linde gang, and instead focus on a brand-new protagonist with no ties to the original members. As another user shares, “No. There’s no redemption at the end of that one. The story is over. RDR3 needs a new story and characters. New map.”

A Red Dead Game About Dutch And Hosea Would Go Hard

However, with both Hosea and Dutch being such iconic characters, and yet remaining secondary additions to the story, maybe a video game from their perspective would offer fans a deeper insight into their psyches. For user Arcadyaa, there could be a way to introduce yet another prequel to the franchise. “I disagree with most of the people who commented here; even though it doesn’t have to be specifically about the gang, RDR3 has an obligation to show the Blackwater massacre,” they wrote. “I also like the idea of a reverse trilogy, and we need an RDR set in the golden age of the Wild West. Both games were from the end of Wild West; we need the golden age, the craziness of that era. I remember seeing a theory where an O’Driscolls was the protagonist, the idea being to show more of the gang and how the Van Der Linde gang was viewed. I like this idea, but I’m sure Rockstar can do something good with whatever idea they choose.”

As mentioned, Red Dead Redemption 3 has not yet been confirmed, but with Rockstar’s next game, Grand Theft Auto VI, expected to launch in November, maybe then the award-winning studio will turn its attention back to the Red Dead franchise…
