Shared unceremoniously on the BioRand Twitter/X social media account, and with only a hatchet emoji as its caption, it has been revealed that a BioRand randomizer for Resident Evil Requiem is in the works. This, along with an official story DLC expansion, should ensure that there is a lot left to look forward to regarding the franchise’s ninth mainline installment.
RE9 Is About To Get A Lot Scarier
BioRand is an expansive mod that, boiled down, is essentially a ‘randomizer,’ meaning that no two playthroughs may be the same with it active. As per the BioRand website, “BIORAND can randomize just about anything including doors, item locations, enemies, characters, cutscenes, background music, and much more.”
Basically, an enemy type that only appears in one part of a game may now suddenly appear elsewhere, and key items may be located in a different place than where they are usually scripted to be. This ‘random’ aspect of Resident Evil randomizers typically allows for a harder experience as players are likely to be combating hordes of much harder enemies than they normally would in any given area or seed, and a lot more exploration may be involved when players must search tirelessly for loot and enemy drops so they can find a desired key, for instance.
Randomizers are a staple of replayability for speedrunners and challenge runners.
The teaser that BioRand has revealed for its Resident Evil Requiem randomizer shows Grace encountering a Blister Borne in the claustrophobic corridors of the Wrenwood Hotel, for example, and HUNK in the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center’s Dining Room, which would make for a hilarious and horrifying seed.
It May Not Be Here For A While
Fortunately for anyone who is itching to experience it, there are already individual BioRand randomizer mods available for the following Resident Evil games on PC:
- Resident Evil
- Resident Evil 2
- Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
- Resident Evil 2 (2019)
- Resident Evil 4 (2023)
A Resident Evil Village BioRand randomizer is in development, teased similarly to the Resident Evil Requiem BioRand at the end of last August, but it is apparently “paused for now as there’s a few issues that have been difficult to fix.” Therefore, it is unknown how long it will be before gamers have access to either randomizer, but both will surely be terrific additions to the catalog.
