Ridley Scott’s 6-Part Fantasy Horror Series Debuts New Images, Reveals Release Date

Ridley Scott’s The Terror: Devil in Silver arrives with new images and a confirmed release date.

Scott is an executive producer of the anthology horror series, which first debuted in 2018, with season 1 based on Dan Simmons’ 2007 novel The Terror that is set in the 1800s. Jared Harris, Tobias Menzies, and Ciarán Hinds starred in season 1’s story that follows a British naval expedition stuck in the ice. Season 2, called The Terror: Infamy, shifts to the time of World War II and features new characters and a different overarching storyline involving a Japanese interment camp, with a cast led by Derek Mio, Kiki Sukezane, and Cristina Rodlo.

Now, the third season, titled The Terror: Devil in Silver, is coming to AMC+ and Shudder on May 7. It will consist of six episodes, released on a weekly basis, and will air on AMC later this year. Dan Stevens plays a working-class man named Pepper who is wrongfully committed to New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital, where he faces conniving patients, doctors with dark secrets, and possibly even the Devil, whom he must confront if he is to escape.

The cast also includes Judith Light, CCH Pounder, Aasif Mandvi, John Benjamin Hickey, Stephen Root, Michael Aronov, Marin Ireland, Chinaza Uche, Hampton Fluker, Hayward Leach, and Philip Ettinger. Check out new images of Stevens and the other cast members below:

Scott and Stevens are executive producers, while Chris Cantwell, Victor LaVelle, and Karyn Kusama are the showrunners. Kusama also directed the first two episodes of The Terror: Devil in Silver after having previously directed the pilot episode and season 2 finale of Yellowjackets. Read Cantwell’s statement about the new season below, along with a statement from Courtney Thomasma, AMC Networks’ Executive Vice President of Linear and Streaming Products.

Chris Cantwell: Working shoulder to shoulder with Victor LaValle to bring his masterful novel to the screen has been an incredible experience, as his story is, yes—packed with death and horror—but also brimming with beauty and the flickering-yet-unassailable light of our fragile humanity. Our writing team expanded and enriched Victor’s pulse-pounding and profound themes, Karyn Kusama brought a brilliant cinematic eye to this very real, very frightening world and we did it all under the accomplished, hallowed banner of Scott Free with a top tier crew. It was a pleasure to return to my inveterate partnership with AMC, a place where above all, characters and drama grip you tight and don’t let go. The Terror: Devil in Silver is no different, as this cast—helmed with grace and strength by Dan Stevens—imbues every one of our characters with dimension, empathy, and soul. You will love these people who very much come from your world. You will grieve with them, cheer for them, laugh with them, and of course fear for their very lives.

Courtney Thomasma: The Terror: Devil in Silver represents everything we love about this anthology – a compelling real-life setting with a veil of supernatural dread, dynamic characters brought to life through powerhouse performances, and a suspenseful, emotionally gripping story that stays with you long after the credits roll. We’re thrilled to co-premiere this new chapter on both AMC+ and the leading horror streamer Shudder, as we bring the series to both premium drama viewers and a passionate horror fanbase. Debuting on the heels of Shudder’s annual Halfway to Halloween programming event serves as a perfect celebration of this kind of elevated genre storytelling.

The Terror: Devil in Silver looks to continue the critical acclaim surrounding the prior seasons. Season 1 has a 94% critics’ score, while season 2 has 80%. With a Popcornmeter score of 89%, general audiences were also impressed by The Terror‘s original story, but less so in season 2, which sits at 65%. These seasons were released in back-to-back years, 2018 and 2019, while it has taken another seven years for season 3 to come to fruition. Between the long hiatus, the popular Stevens leading the cast, and the show’s positive track record, anticipation is already high.
