Scary Movie 6 Moves Up Release Date 1 Day After Online Trailer Release

Previously known as Scary Movie 6 before the trailer revealed its official title as just Scary Movie, the upcoming film is the sixth installment in the parody franchise following Scary Movie 5 in 2013, and the first to feature involvement of the Wayans family since Scary Movie 2 in 2001.

Now, on Instagram, Marlon Wayans made the announcement that Scary Movie has moved up its release date to June 5, as it was previously scheduled to hit theaters on June 12. Read his full comments or watch the video in the post below:

We are currently in the edit for Scary Movie. The bad news is, we’re no longer going to be releasing on June 12. The good news is, due to the overwhelming response and the worldwide excitement, we are releasing a week earlier. That’s right: June 5th is the new date for Scary Movie! We’re starting off the summer with a bang and a laugh fest. So I’m really excited about coming early.

Paramount seemingly moved up Scary Movie‘s release date to avoid competition with Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day from Universal on June 12, though it will face perhaps even more competition on June 5, as it now releases on the same weekend as Masters of the Universe from Amazon MGM Studios, Animal Friends starring Ryan Reynolds from Warner Bros., and Lionsgate’s Power Ballad starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas.

Scary Movie moving up its release date comes one day after the online release of its trailer, which originally debuted in theaters on February 27 ahead of Scream 7, one of the horror franchises it frequently spoofs. The Scary Movie trailer revealed several more horror movies that it will parody, including M3GAN, Wednesday, Ma, Sinners, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Get Out, Smile, Weapons, Longlegs, The Substance, and Terrifier.

Scary Movie (2026) is directed by Michael Tiddes with a script written by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans, and Rick Alvarez. The official synopsis reads:

Twenty-six years after outrunning a suspiciously familiar masked killer (“Ghostface”), the Core Four are back in the killer’s crosshairs and no horror movie IP is safe. Marlon Wayans (“Shorty”), Shawn Wayans (“Ray”), Anna Faris (“Cindy”), and Regina Hall (“Brenda”) reunite in Scary Movie alongside returning favorites and fresh faces to slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and every “final chapter” that absolutely isn’t final.

Nothing is sacred. No trope survives. ​Every line gets crossed. The Wayans are back to cancel the Cancel Culture.

In addition to Marlon Wayans, Scary Movie (2026) also features the return of Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Jon Abrahams, and Anthony Anderson. New cast members include Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, and Felissa Rose.
