Scream 7 Box Office Pushes The 30-Year-Old Franchise Past Billion Worldwide

Scream is now a billion-dollar franchise.

2026’s Scream 7, which is the installment that pushed the iconic horror series over the edge, debuted on February 27, roughly 30 years after the debut of the original movie in 1996. Original cast members Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Matthew Lillard have returned opposite a new ensemble that includes Isabel May, Joel McHale, Anna Camp, Mckenna Grace, Asa Germann, Celeste O’Connor, and Ethan Embry.

Per The Numbers, Scream 7 made $97.2 million during its global debut weekend. This pushes the franchise’s cumulative global box office to a total of $1.008 billion, making it the 117th film franchise in history to hit the billion-dollar milestone at the box office.

The major franchises that the Scream movies have outgrossed include American Pie ($990.4 million), Final Destination ($975.5 million), Back to the Future ($974.3 million), Predator ($925.7 million), Halloween ($855.1 million), and The Expendables ($840.8 million). Other rival slasher franchises that it has outgrossed include Friday the 13th ($466.2 million) and A Nightmare on Elm Street ($450.7 million).

While it has just crested the billion-dollar mark, the Scream franchise could quickly rise up the ranks of history’s highest-grossing franchises. Scream 7 had the biggest domestic debut of the entire franchise by far, with its $64.1 million 3-day total far outstripping the previous record-holder, which was Scream VI‘s $44.4 million.

If Scream 7 follows the same trajectory as Scream VI, it has the potential to hit an overall worldwide total of $244.1 million by the end of its theatrical run, making it the highest-grossing installment in the franchise when not adjusted for inflation.

This total would push the franchise’s cumulative worldwide gross to roughly $1.155 billion, which would allow Scream to pass franchises such as Sing ($1.035 billion), Ghostbusters ($1.143 billion), and Saw ($1.147 billion) to eventually become the 108th highest-grossing of all time.

Additionally, the success of the new movie very likely means that the potential Scream 8 will become a reality, which could push the Scream franchise to even greater heights before long. Presuming the overall chart does not shift too much between now and the time of its release, by earning at least $100 million, the eighth installment could allow the franchise to crack the all-time Top 100.
