The 24-year-old was one of seven Ulster players in the Ireland matchday squad for the game in Dublin, five in the starting team and two among the replacements.

“I think there was a stat during the week that there were no Ulster players in the last Ireland team that played Wales so to have seven tonight shows the work we are putting in and that we’re desperate to come and play in the green jersey. That’s where all our aspirations are,” Doak continued.

“Ulster are doing well and we’re reaping the benefits.

“Because it was so quick [coming on for Gibson-Park in the first half] you didn’t have time to think so it was quite a nice thing as well. Then it makes it easier coming on the second time so it helps settle the nerves.”

Doak added that the week leading up to his first appearance is one he will cherish.

“It’s been class, it’s been a class week, my family were down at my jersey presentation during the week, and to have them here with me tonight, it’s been a great week,” reflected Doak as he spoke to reporters post-match.

“The lads made me feel very at home throughout the week, indeed the past four or five weeks, so it’s really easy to fit in here and be yourself.”
