Now, it’s possible to take this 2011 classic and revamp it for 2026, as seen in this Reddit discussion. 15 years of technological advancements are pretty impactful, it turns out.
This Unofficial Remaster Proves Skyrim Will Never Die
Fans Will Always Revive It
In a stunning new video, a Reddit user showcases just how far Skyrim mods have come in 2026, highlighting how great the game looks with a brand-new sheen. The images are stunning at times, with large draw distances, and the gallery is a great look at the variety of locales Skyrim offers.
According to the poster, they use what they call an “average PC,” clocking in at: “9060 XT 16GB, i3 12100f, 16GB.” As for what mods they use: “JK’s Skyrim, Ryn’s Whiterun City Limit, Abstract Whiterun Gate, and Restored Whiterun Defenses.”
As a fan points out, many folks are still just playing Skyrim to get their gaming fix: “I want a decent gaming PC just to mod the hell out of Skyrim and add all those 8K photorealistic retextures. I don’t even play that many games anymore, just Skyrim and a couple other games.”
The biggest request, it seems, is more support for console modding, including the same tools and mod suites used on PC. As the console era moves on, it’s entirely possible that we could see a PS5 Pro version of Skyrim, followed by something on Project Helix and the PS6.
Some folks are even surprised people are still playing Skyrim: “Looks good, but does anyone even play Skyrim anymore? I had it on Xbox 360 back in like 2009 or something.” The answer is a resounding “yes.” People have played Skyrim and sung its praises for nearly 20 years. If the next Elder Scrolls game is remotely disappointing, fans will continue to sing Skyrim’s praises even more.
It Might Be A Long Wait
So, when will The Elder Scrolls 6 actually come out? If you ask some fans, they’ll say “never.” It was revealed in 2018, which feels like forever ago now. Since then, Bethesda has essentially given us nothing to work withwhile they split their time between Starfield revamps and updates and, presumably, the next Fallout game.
Bethesda not only has sky-high expectations for their upcoming games, but a huge bar to clear for The Elder Scrolls in particular, since Skyrim was such a beloved, massive hit.
