Skyrim is Officially Returning In A Brand-New Elder Scrolls Expansion

As someone who very much considers themselves a fan of MMORPGs, The Elder Scrolls Online really does feel like it might be the most underrated of the bunch. Zenimax Online have done a great job building up the game over the years, but after all this time, it does feel like it’s due a bit of a reset.

Back in January, the game laid out a full roadmap for 2026, with some pretty revolutionary plans for the game laid out across three individual seasons. Alterations to all of the game’s classes are already underway, with more promised moving forward, whilst the tangible gameplay changes are also set to roll out in relatively short order.

Season Zero, known as Dawn and Dusk, is bringing with it a huge time-limited event in The Night Market, which is set to run for seven weeks and allows players to take on pretty tricky PvE content. Outside of that, we have also been promised a return to arguably Tamriel’s most famous region, and we couldn’t be more excited to do so.

As first reported by GamesRadar+, Zenimax were very open about their desires moving forward, saying, “We still want to do new zones, we still want to do content.” The first of those new zones is set to finally take players back to the scene of all the crimes they presumably committed since 2011, as we return to the home of the Nords and Skyrim.

Where exactly in the region we will be going right now is unclear, but there are so many potentially exciting locations that are ripe for further exploration in the sprawling MMO. Things have come a long way over the last decade and a half, so it really could be a look at Skyrim, the likes of which we have never had before.

Outside of the genuinely exciting addition of The Night Market, the developers are making so many other changes to the game that it may well feel like an entirely new offering. There are some important improvements to the PvP system, with a Challenge Difficulty system for the overworld and new Thieves Guild and Sheogorath story content.

We’re also getting the High Seas of Tamriel event, featuring naval combat and underwater exploration, as well as solo dungeons debuting into the game for the first time. ESO is also adding its first new base game Trial since launch, the Crimson Veldt, in what promises to be an absolutely monumental year for the game.
