The most anticipated DC and Marvel crossover of 2026 is almost here. DC / Marvel: Superman / Spider-Man #1, by Mark Waid and Jorge Jiménez, hits shelves on March 25, 2026. The special brings journalists Clark Kent and Peter Parker together when Brainiac and Doctor Octopus get involved in the latest story they’re chasing, but luckily, Superman and the Amazing Spider-Man are on the case.
The team-up between the Man of Steel and Spider-Man isn’t the only collaboration fans can look forward to. A backup story featuring Superboy-Prime and Spider-Man is also confirmed, and it’s bringing back Peter’s iconic symbiote suit.
Spider-Man’s Iconic Symbiote Suit Returns Thanks to Superboy-Prime
Preview Page Comes from Superboy-Prime and Symbiote Spider-Man by Christopher Priest and Daniel Sampere
In addition to Waid and Jiménez’s main feature in Superman/Spider-Man #1, there will also be seven back-up stories. Among these, Superboy-Prime and Symbiote Spider-Man by Christopher Priest and Daniel Sampere is among the most highly anticipated. As the title suggests, it sees Peter’s iconic black Spider-Man suit make its return.
Spider-Man’s black suit originally debuted in 1984’s Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars after his classic red-and-blue costume was damaged in battle. Unbeknownst to Peter, this black replacement suit was actually a living extraterrestrial organism that would later become the symbiote known as Venom. As a result, the suit wasn’t just a visual upgrade, it was a power upgrade as well.
Marvel & DC Reveal New Crossover Era With the Most Unlikely Hero Duo
Two of the most iconic superheroes in pop culture are officially breaking the multiverse in their upcoming historic DC x Marvel crossover.
Peter soon discovered the suit could generate its own webbing, shift its shape, and even respond to his thoughts. Though he eventually rejected the suit and the symbiote, it remains one of his most iconic costumes, not just because of its sleek black design, but because it represents the moment Peter Parker confronted the seductive cost of power.
Marvel & DC Drop Hilarious First Look at Superboy-Prime and Symbiote Spider-Man Crossover
Superboy-Prime Uses His Fourth-Wall Awareness to Bring Symbiote Spider-Man Back
While the return of Spider-Man’s symbiote suit is undeniably epic, the sneak peek of Priest and Sampere’s back-up story also gives fans a glimpse of Superboy-Prime and Spider-Man’s upcoming interaction. Despite the preview being only a single page, it’s already hilarious.
As long-time DC fans know, Superboy-Prime is one of the most powerful Kryptonians in the publisher’s narratives, with abilities that far surpass those of mainstream Superman. Among his powers is fourth-wall awareness, meaning he knows he’s a comic character and frequently breaks the fourth wall, ignoring rules that constrain most others.
In the preview, we see Superboy-Prime grabbing Symbiote Spider-Man by the scruff and yanking him out of his original comic appearances and into the crossover. This sets up an extremely entertaining dynamic between the two and will undoubtedly make this back-up story one of the standout moments in the upcoming Superman / Spider-Man crossover.
