Marking the first time since Star Trek: Discovery in 2017 that there are no new Star Trek series in the works at Paramount+, this announcement made shockwaves around the fandom, with some frustrated by the news and others who have been vocal in their disapproval of the series rejoicing. In a letter shared with fans, series producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau said, “It’s been my and Noga’s joy and privilege to help carry Gene Roddenberry’s extraordinary vision forward with Starfleet Academy, thanks to the hundreds of hardworking humans who pour every ounce of their talents into the work daily with imagination and reverence,” and later concluding, “With enduring hope that his vision of the future is possible, for our children, their children, and every future cadet in Starfleet Academy: Live Long and Prosper.”
It isn’t just fans and the show’s producers who have made their reaction to the news public; star Karim Diané, who made history as the franchise’s first depiction of an openly gay Klingon, has taken to social media to voice their sadness at the show’s cancellation. In a video uploaded to Instagram, Diané said:
“Season 2 will be our last season. That is really hard for me to say, because I love this show so much. I got the chance to create 20 episodes within one of the most iconic sci-fi franchises of all time, alongside some of the most experienced and talented artists in this entire industry. And, there is 10 episodes left. Season 2 is basically just Season 1 turned all the way up. I also have so much behind-the-scenes content that I am going to continue sharing. Thank you guys so much for supporting me, supporting Jay-Den, and supporting this show.”

When Will ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ Season 2 Come Out?
In the aforementioned letter to the fans from producers Kurtzman and Landau, they revealed, “We are in post-production now on what will be the second and final season,” adding, “We’re so proud of what we’ve accomplished together on this show, and the world will get to see the work of these extraordinary artists when season two airs. We will finish strong.” With this in mind, and considering Paramount’s history of staggering Star Trek releases, we likely won’t see Season 2 until early 2027.
