Star Wars Is Officially Getting A New Game From Ubisoft

If you’ve been keeping track of all the upcoming Star Wars releases that are supposedly on the way from various developers, then you’ll know that it’s a particularly exciting time to be a fan of the franchise, particularly if everything comes to fruition over the next few years.

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, hailed as a spiritual successor to the beloved Knights of the Old Republic, is currently under development at Arcanaut Studios, while the genuinely brilliant-looking pod racing release, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, is also on the way soon enough.

We’re even getting a remake of the aforementioned Knights of the Old Republic, while Quantic Dream’s Star Wars Eclipse is supposedly still ticking away behind the scenes. The only caveat to all that excitement is that we’re going to have to wait a little while for them to drop, but another game is on the way a lot sooner, and it’s a collaboration that you almost certainly wouldn’t have expected.

This Is Not The Star Wars Game You’re Looking For

As first reported by ComicBook.com, publisher Ubisoft has confirmed the upcoming release of Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains, a “dynamic team-based twist on the world’s favorite family board game.”

The game will supposedly allow teams of two or three to band together to take control of the Monopoly board, using lore-appropriate abilties to get the job done along the way. Currently confirmed for the roster are characters from all generations of the films, including Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, Darth Maul, Rey, and Princess Leia.

Outside of that, Ubisoft is yet to share a ton of specific detail about how the ambitious rethink of the iconic game will look and play. That said, more news is set to follow on April 29, where the game will be fully revealed as part of the Star Wars May the 4th celebrations.

Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws Was Excellent

If you didn’t play it the first time around, Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws was actually a very solid entry in the franchise as a whole, with plenty of nods to the existing fan base and some clever ways of bringing the overall lore forward.

Though these are obviously very different propositions, if they can use the information and experience they gained producing Star Wars Outlaws into making a Monopoly game, then it will almost certainly be a board game release like no other.
