Superman Gets His Most Badass Costume of All Time Ahead of New Batman Crossover

We are not exaggerating when we say that Superman has just debuted his most badass costume of all time. This new look comes ahead of his upcoming team-up with Batman, and it should be no surprise that it’s the legendary Dan Mora giving us this new Superman costume.

It’s a DC fact that everything Dan Mora touches turns to gold, and Superman’s costume update for Mark Waid and Adrián Gutiérrez’s upcoming June 17, 2026, release Batman / Superman: World’s Finest #52 is no exception.

While we still have several months until this issue drops, the DC solicitation for the issue, which includes a sneak peek at Mora’s main cover, shows off Superman wearing what is, without a doubt, the most badass iteration of his costume of all time.

Batman Superman World’s Finest #52

As a quick reminder, Waid’s World’s Finest series is indeed part of mainstream canon; however, it takes place in the past, during the era when Dick Grayson was still Batman’s Robin. That said, Superman’s new look for the upcoming World’s Finest issue sees him wearing his typical suit for this era, though with some major and epic changes.

One of the most notable changes to the suit itself is that Clark’s “S” shield has swapped out its classic yellow background for black. However, it’s not the color swap that makes this Superman’s most badass costume to date, but rather the dinosaur bone armor he dons. Dinosaur bones cover the Man of Steel’s arms, legs, and torso, with a Triceratops skull serving as one of his pauldrons.

Why Is Superman Wearing Armor? Isn’t He Invulnerable?

While there is no denying that this look is badass, some fans may be confused about why Superman is wearing armor in the first place. The answer to this question can be found in the solicitation for Batman / Superman: World’s Finest #51, which teases the start of a new story arc in which Clark, Bruce, and Robin enter the lost world of Skartaris, home of Travis Morgan, the Warlord.

Skartaris is the prehistoric “lost world” located within the hollow core of the Earth, a realm featuring dinosaurs, magic, and, most notably, a red sun. Hence, when Superman enters this land with its red sun, he will be substantially weakened and stripped of his powers, including invulnerability. Ergo, he will need armor to compensate for this lack of protection.

Batman and Superman Debut Matching Costumes Ahead of New Appearance

There is no greater best friend duo in the DC Universe than Batman and Superman, and even middle-aged heroes know best friends need matching outfits.

Given that the trio won’t have access to their typical resources, it makes sense that Superman will have to fashion armor on the fly using the available resources in the world. In this case, it seems that said available resources are dinosaur bones, which will help protect Superman’s own bones from being broken while stuck under a red sun.

There is, of course, the chance that this dinosaur bone look won’t debut in the narrative, as sometimes covers can be deceiving. However, the World’s Finest series has a great track record of the elements teased on its covers also making in-narrative debuts. So, it is highly likely we will see this incredibly badass Superman costume in action come summer.

PART TWO OF STANDOFF IN SKARTARIS! Batman and Travis Morgan, the Warlord, must work together to combat the greatest threat to this underground kingdom — the Tyrannosorcerer! But where is Superman? In search of a new way to augment his powers that will shock you!
